Gluten free on DCL

Gluten diets is perhaps the most well highlighted on the menu's on my summer Wonder cruise.

My DH loved every one of his GF meals on the Dream. GF chicken fingers at the QS place near the pool, excellent GF options during the MDR, and lots to pick from Cabanas buffet.
The only hiccup we had was that none of the dietary requirement request sheets were sent to CC. Apparently it was ship wide and not just my DH. It worked out okay for us since he's well aware of what is safe and what could be iffy.

He never went hungry and always had knowledgeable CM to help with selections. It's very much like DW and that there is a designated person at QS locations and then your waiter will help with any questions during your MDR.

I have always had great luck. The smaller ships are a bit more limited, but they are always eager to please. At breakfast I could get doughnuts if I asked and I believe pancakes, I have never tried these though. The Palo brunch is incredible and has a lot of GF options:). Make sure to have GF noted on your reservation.

One tip for the first night, go to the spot set up for dining room changes and get the first nights GF order in, so his service won't be delayed.

The best thing I can say is my belly feels better on the ship than at home:)

If you are eating gluten free because you have to, i.e. - a Celiac or have a gluten allergy, you should get that noted on your reservation. The serving team will be aware of it before they meet you and will work with you on ensuring that you food meets your needs. My wife is allergic to gluten, corn, tomatoes, peanuts, sesame seeds, and walnuts. The first night the server will go over all of the menu items to let her know what items can be made that accommodate her allergies. After dinner, they will bring the next night's menu and take her order, letting her know if the chef can accommodate her allergies on the item. They will also take her breakfast order at the same time and set which restaurant we will eat at. DCL goes above and beyond to accommodate food allergies.

Rookie here. So you just go to Tow Mater's Grill and ask for GF Chicken Fingers? That easy?

Thanks

Yes, it is pretty much this easy at the pool deck for food. Just off Fantasy yesterday and youngest daughter has Celiac's. Nothing at Tow Maters is pre-prepared GF like the other stuff is, so you do have to order and then wait about 5 mins for cooking. They had GF chicken fingers, fries, hot dog and hamburgers/cheeseburgers with GF buns and pizza. They also have packaged cookies and packaged potato chips that are also GF at the pool side. Daughter was pleased with different options available all week!

My husband is gluten free, and they would bring him the menu at dinner time for the dinner the following evening, so they could ensure that they had his gf dinner of choice ready!

Bump for recent feedback.

Still GF friendly labeling? Will they actually make a special plate? In the special requests box pre-cruise they didn't have GF as an option.

I sent DCL a message and I'm waiting. Thought I'd try here. My biggest issue is GF beer. Given the new restrictions, I can only bring 6. I doubt that castaway Kay or Nassau will have GF beer easily. So I hope they let me bring more than 6.

You'd be wiser to call DCL and tell the agent to note GF on your reservation. Who knows what will happen to an email. I do this for DW on all our cruises. Of all the cruise lines we've sailed, DCL is the most attentive to her needs, as noted in several comments above.

Can't help you on the beer.

They did not have any GF chicken tenders on the Wonder in May 2015. I'm wondering if those are only available on the larger ships? Otherwise, I had decent luck. The donuts were good. Don't get too excited though. Most of the stuff is frozen/prepackaged Udi's stuff...not home made wonderfulness. Our DD has other allergies, so they brought the packaging out to us often and it was all prepackaged...nothing was fresh.

I'm GF too and will be reporting back in 3 weeks after we are off the Dream. We have it noted on our reservation and will talk to them when we arrive as well.

I will add to the pile that DCL is great for GF. We have been on four cruises and my wife was well cared-for every time. Our servers never had to be reminded and were very conscientious about making sure she knew what her options were for the following night.

This last cruise I was in heaven, they made me GF fried chicken on the Magic. It was the first time I had it in over 7 years. They have been great to me on all 4 ships and I agree that I am always full. The only thing that I wish they had that was better was a different dinner roll option, the ones they have are probably my least favorite.

I'm not GF, however I will chime in that DCL is fantastic with allergies and food restrictions of any kind. They really bend over backwards. I'm allergic to Shellfish and Anise, and our dining teams have always handled it amazingly. It's usually pretty easy to avoid Shellfish, as it's a well known and common allergy, but Anise is a little harder and they really have to dig around to make sure it's not added as a weird seasoning.

GF on the Magic was fantastic this past June. They've even improved on their dessert offerings that are gf! My server brought me creme brulee from a different MDR one night when nothing on the menu was gf for dessert! Just ask, if they can make it gf they will, and if they can't, they'll tell you.
