Is it possible to request gluten free menu items at the restaurants in DW? Yes, I know I can avoid gluten, but this is for my 2 yr old and I'm wondering if Disney World restaurants happen to have things like gluten free bread & pasta upon special request.

Disney is awesome about catering to people's food restrictions. We traveled with my SIL who has celiacs in 2006 and every restuarant was very accommodating. The chef would even come out and have a chat with her.
There is a lot of info about gluten free over on the Disability boards.

Yes! The Disunplugged team dud a segment on this not too long ago! You need to let the restaurant know ahead of time and some places have more to offer than others but I recall there were G free rolls on burgers, pizza crusts, etc. The chef or manager usually comes out to speak with you too! They take allergies of foods very seriously at DW! My son gas a tree nut allergy so I'm going to be going through this in December at Disney as well:)

My wife found out she has a gluten allergy two years ago about a month before our anniversary trip to WDW. All of the restaurants we ate at on that trip, and also our two week trip last year, were very accomodating. She never had any issues, including cross contamination problems. The food was always great, and she described the gluten free pancakes, rice bread, & rolls as good. The chefs always came out to talk with her and explain what she could and could not eat. One of the chefs at Boma, on his own initiative, made a special plate for her based on what foods she liked. She was even able to get a large gluten free dessert plate at the Wishes fireworks dessert buffet. According to her, nobody is more gluten free friendly than Disney.

I asked this for a family member a couple months ago and was shown a couple things. One of the links was VERY helpful.

Check that out. They ate at a lot of TS meals (they had the DxDP) and they were VERY accommodating. Disney is very gluten free friendly!

This is from my post that I started-it's from another DIS-er:

Contact Special Diets and they should be able to help (I'm still waiting to hear back but I started trying Friday night and I think they're closed on weekends).

There's more info you can find in the Disabilities forum. Overall WDW appears very accomodating.

We just got back from Disney 2 days ago ... my 10 year old son has Celiac disease. We had no problems with any of his meals. If you are making advanced dining reservations let them know when you make the reservation ... if you are ordering counter service meals let them know before you start to place your order and they will bring a manager out to talk to you. They have a book to help people with allergies listing all the ingredients in the foods they serve.
