I am really hoping that some DISers can give advice on the best CS places for GF kids meals. We have the QSDP for next trip and because of DD7's gluten allergy, we end up leaving lots of kids CS unused. She is not celiac so traces aren't a huge concern, but certainly eating a bit of bread or a chicken nugget could make for unpleasant reactions.

TS is usually great, especially calling in advance but CS is more tricky. Last time I never bothered to try at the CS and sometimes managed to sub fruit or a salad, or paid OOP for something for her and we just swapped meals. Just trying to make her feel like she can have her own meal - it can become an issue with her as she was only diagnosed around 3 years old - so she remembers not being restricted with choices and it can be upsetting for her when she's stuck with fruit salad and the GF things I bring with.

Any help would be appreciated!

you can email the special diets team and they will send you a list of places that have Pizzas, hamburger buns, hot dog buns, and there are even places that BAKE the fries :)
Every Counter service has the 300 LB notebook :lmao: that lists all foods they serve that are safe for GF

Right off the bat I know Comisc rays offers Gluten free buns and baked fries
I get a hamburger w/apple slices :)

Pinocchio Village Haus has amy's GF pizza (they are expensive at 13$ ) but still yummy:)

Epcot has GF buns at America & used to at Electric Umbrells but not so sure anymore there
Also at Epcot Sunshine Seasons they have WONDERFUL choices like mashed potatoes , Pork chop etc..Just DOUBLE check with a chef as recipes change all the time. Sunshine seasons can even get you gluten free beer... Not that you want that for your DD But it's good to know for adults:)

AK and HS also has places for GF buns and fries.

The toy story pizza place at HS used to have GF pizzas but I am hearing from others they do not?? but email and get a list- I carry one with me so I can just say I want this food please..

the bakery on Main Street and the bakery in Sunshine seasons has wonderful brownies and chocolate chip cookies for treats!

Thank you SOOOO much!:flower3: I am half hoping that Toy Story didn't have GF in April. I eventually took DD in and bought her a souvenir mug and she was in tears because everyone was ordering pizza. I didn't even think to ask. You have made one Mommy feel very relieved and grateful. Thank you.

As someone who is also gluten free (and dairy free too) I can feel the frustrations. Brenda Bennett at Special Diets will give you a great amount of information (including specific counter service restaurants and items you can get) that will help you with your planning. Good luck!
I've heard great things about Pecos Bills (for burgers and GF buns), Columbia Harbor House (GF allergy free chicken tenders), Cosmic Rays (Oven fries, and much more) and there are tons of other places in the different parks. Most CS have French Meadow brownies and cookies.

The counter service at Saratoga Springs has hand breaded gluten free chicken fingers and fries that chef Ron makes special. We went back 3 times, it was great. Also at EPCOT they have GF mac and cheese at the American Pavilion CS.

:lovestruc:thumbsup2 Oh, you are all just too good to be true!!!! Thank you. Does anyone have the link/email address for Disney's Special Diets Team? I am sure I had it somewhere but my hunt has been fruitless.

TIA

:littleangel: Oh, you are just all going to be my friends for ever! THANK YOU! :dance3:

We were watching the Electromagic parade and my GF son and husband were hungry. We went to the little hotdog umbrella stand for some peanuts, and I jokingly said to the attendant, "Any glutenfree snacks back there?" He offered us GF hotdog buns, and said that the fries were in a dedicated frier, so they were gluten free too. Sometimes if they are really busy they cannot dedicate their friers, but just ask.

I have found that just asking at ANY of the places results in some unexpected treats.

My husband is celiac's -- and he got gluten free pizza at Pizza Planet on our April trip (last week of April). He is there now but doubt he will be going to Pizza Planet without kids.

Thanks also from me!:goodvibes

NOV10-19 CSR... can't wait!!!:yay:

i had awesome gf chicken tenders at columbia harbour house in MK with fries. they will give you a list of all the places that carry these tenders if you email the diet team.

sunshine seasons was my favorite CS meal. the grill area had GF grilled pork chops, chicken, mashed potatos, and veggies. they also had the GF brownies on hand as my dessert.

i used a lot of CS credits for breakfast, i got custom made omletts with hash browns, it was quick and easy. you can get plain scrambled eggs too.

dont forget dole whips as snacks they are GF.

i also had a burger on a GF bun one day with fries at the POR foodcourt.

they also have amy's GF mac & cheese at columbia harbour house and other locations, and i believe the GF pizzas are amy's as well.

Do they do this in a child's portion? It is DD(7) who is GF and she loves mac n cheese but I don't really like pasta. Just wondering if the portion is going to be too large for her and if I will need to use one of my adult CS for her meal.

I believe that although the protions are the same, they only use the child meal if you are buying gf for your child.

Thanks. I don't actually mind paying in a surcharge for GF as the ingredients are more expensive anyway. I just don't want to feel like I have to share a GF mac n cheese just because the portion size is huge though. I guess it will depend on each restaurant and what they have available.

Have you listened to last week's podcast? I actually did a segment on eating gluten-free counter service at WDW. The 10/21/09 show - start at minute 70 http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-podcast/
The Pizza Planet g-f pizza was good and the chicken fingers at Columbia Harbour House were awesome! (I am not celiac) I would skip the buns all over the parks though...

Thank you! I agree GF buns are not great, but it is all DD knows so she doesn't know any different. I often see her eating these dry, crumbly buns as if they are the best thing ever and feel so sorry for her. Yet she is so thankful and always tells me it was great! Fortunately she is not celiac either, which makes life a LOT less stressful. Nonetheless, I need to be very careful. Thanks again for the link.

Thanks for this thread- I didn't know I could email and get gluten free info. DH is gluten-intolerant. When we stayed at POFQ he asked for a burger with no bun and the chef asked why. When DH told him he asked how long we were staying and had gf buns for the rest of the week!

Portobello in DTD has gluten-free stuff too. DH loves to go there and have pasta.

Have a great trip!

It just keeps getting better and better! You guys are all fantastic! I can't believe how many times I walked around in WDW and paid OOP for something for DD to eat/to supplement my adult CS so we could share something suitable for her to eat. And all this time this info has been around. I must admit, it never occurred to me to look on the Disabilities Board for dietary issues so blessed be the wonderful person who directed me here through a remark I made in an unrelated thread! :thumbsup2
