Gluten Free at Smokejumpers?

I heard from someone who went to DCA yesterday they aren't offering gluten free hamburger buns at Smokejumpers? Can anyone confirm that? I thought Disney was offering gluten free most everywhere and my source is admittedly easily confused sometimes.

Sorry - haven't been to smokejumpers in DCA -where is it? Last year we had GF burgers at the place next to Soarin' (Pilot is in its name somewhere) but when we were at DCA last weekend I think it was closed (the whole section in front of Soarin' was closed).

I've found most but not all places have GF options. Whitewater Snacks (the fast food place next to the pool at Grand Californian Hotel - right near the DCA entrance) makes GF burgers as well - we had checked with them last Thursday but opted to eat in DTD that night instead.

Taste Pilots became Smokejumpers when they re-themed the area, I believe.

I specifically looked that up just yesterday because Taste Pilot's was one of my kids' favorite places to go, and the last time we went (3 years ago) one of the only places in DCA you could get a gluten-free burger. I think what i read was the official Disneyland gluten-free list, and it DID list gluten-free buns at Smokejumper's. I don't have time to look for the link right now, but search for "gluten-free Smokejumper's Disneyland" and you should be able to find it.

We went to Smokejumpers right after in opened in late March. Dd9 has celiac, and so we ordered her a GF burger (which she LOVED). Chef came out & took her order, made her GF fries & everything in their "allergy" kitchen so we didn't have to worry about cross contamination. The chef also asked what condiments she wanted so we didn't have to worry about contamination in the fixin station. The best part? Dd got an ENTIRE basket of sliced pickles!

Thank you for this - Taste Pilot Grill was one of our "go-to" places to eat and I was just diagnosed with celiac. Is Smokejumpers still a walk-up restaurant? Did you just say you had someone with celiac when you ordered? I have been to a sit-down place with someone who was gluten-free and I know how awesome that is - just wondering about the more casual restaurants.

Yes, it's still walk up, very similar to Taste Pilots (I think...been a few years since we went there!). When we order anywhere, we tell them that dd is gluten free & has celiac, and then they usually call the chef over to take her order. Takes a bit longer to get our food, but at least we know it's safe to eat! And, I forgot to mention, her order came out with a different color paper so everyone knew it was an "allergy/GF" meal.

Anyhow...pretty much all of the counter & table service restaurants are equipped to be GF. We were told at Jolly Holiday that all of the restaurants had GF options; however, from personal experience, the GF option might not be what you want! :)

Check out the GF superthread on here (can't link it right now, sorry!), lots of info there. I also saved all the menus in iBooks on my phone so I could pull them up easily, and I go over them in advance with dd so we have an idea if a restaurant is likely to have something she wants. I think the only places that don't necessarily have GF are the quick service, like the Red Wagon for corn dogs, etc. But again, I can't stress enough, read through the menus ahead of time & figure out what you want & can eat. It makes our vacation so much smoother!

Phew! Thank you for the info everyone. We have a gluten allergy in the family and I didn't want to get hopes up about the GF burgers at Smokejumpers if the buns weren't going to be around, so glad they still are and it was just some bad information!

In my experience with GF, DL and DCA were GREAT overall, but some of the cast members are not up to speed. Ask for a Manager or Chef if you don't get an acceptable answer/response.... walk to another restaurant.

I suggest ordering the GF meal FIRST to address any allergy issues and to let the chef get started on your GF meals. If you can't resolve the issues, move on to another place as there is likely a better option nearby. I don't risk it anymore with cross contamination issues.
