We're heading to WDW in May, but this time I am travelling as a newly diagnosed celiac. Still rather overwhelmed. What I'd really like to know is whether my absolutely favorite CS restaurant in DTD, Earl of Sandwich, can do gluten-free ... ? Anyone know if they have G-free bread ??

When I contacted them they said they do not have gluten free bread, but several of their salad options are available along with fresh fruit. It's a favorite of mine too, so I feel your pain!

I was managing well with GF options at WDW until I read about the lack of Gfree bread at Earl of Sandwich ! :sad1: We'll be at DTD for 2 quick service dinners on our trip... looks like I've got some planning to do. Thanks for the info Eeyorepal422.

Great question! I was wondering about GF on our next trip as my son has developed alleries to Gluten, wheat, apples, etc. It is not anywhere near as severe as ciliac so I really sympathize with you. Earl of Sandwhich is my favorit DT restaurant too. I wonder if we could band together and encourage EOS to have a Gluten Free Menu? I am not sure where to start but if there is interest I would be willing to check out our options.

What do you think?

I am GF and ate at Earl of Sandwich on my last trip down (January).

I was SO sick afterwards. I had fresh mozzerella, roast beef and the balsamic vinigarette. No bread at all. But there must be significant cross contamination there because it was the only time on the entire trip that I got ill. Really ill. Almost couldn't get on the plane home later that afternoon ill. And it happened after I ate at Earl.

FYI - Wolfgang Puck Express has a GF roasted chicken and salad. Other than that, DTD is not that GF friendly.

I eat GF and Earl of Sandwich just seems too risky for me even if they did carry GF bread.

We just got back from a 5 day visit yesterday and I got to speak with the chef at every restaurant but 1...guess where I got gluten? At least it was the last meal on the last day and I only had a short drive home.

I self diagnosed my issues with gluten. I fall off the GF diet all of the time because I am the only one who eats GF in the house and I hate being a drag on everyone else..it only hurts badly for the first week or so then I get used to feeling like crud.

But I have been very good for over a month. I eat very simply at home..fruits, veggies, meat, yogurt, nuts and eggs....was never a big bread and pastry eater before GF, so losing that didn't bother me. Although I admit the gluten free bread and waffles at Disney did inspire me to buy some last night for the house....I will also be placing an order with EnerG this weekend.

Le Cellier-lunch, 50's Prime Time Cafe'-dinner, Whispering Canyon Cafe'-breakfast, Liberty Tree Tavern-dinner, Rainforest Cafe'-dinner and the grill at the Seasons located at The Land were all great. I spoke with a chef at all of these locations and my family didn't seem too put out by having to wait for me to order..although I did hear some grumblings while walking past Yak & Yeti(I just assume kikkoman soy sauce with wheat is used in abundance) I could be wrong.

Pecos Bills at the Magic Kingdom 'glutenized' me.....I spoke with the assistant dining manager instead of a chef and he had his handy dandy allergen binder and offered to make me special grilled onions and mushrooms from my burger (the ones at the topping bar use the same grill for the veggie burgers which contain wheat) my hamburger bun looked a lot like my son's kid's meal bun....I'm not sure if it the bun wasn't GF or if he didn't clean the grill before preparing my onions and mushrooms(he was so concerned about infecting me he didn't even use salt or pepper) but within half an hour I felt like I was being stabbed in the belly and my joints started to hurt, I was flushed and felt clammy(my husband was ready to take me to the ER by time we arrived home thinking I was on the verge of a heart attack)....today I am itchy and rashy and... to put it mildly...short tempered.

My MIL just gets sandwiches without bread. Now, it's weird someone got sick, so I'd be leary. I don't think she'd ever even try eating at EoS, since sandwich is in the name.

But at McDonald's she gets a nice container with her no-bread sandwich.

My daughter's are both on a GF/CF diet and this past August we went to Wolfgang Puck's at DD... we asked to speak to the chef and he was so accomodating. He made them a GF pizza with just sauce and pepperoni. It was perfect and they were so excited.

Thanks for the information on Wolfgang Puck. My son who is GF loves Pizza and unless we make it homemade it is a rare that he gets to eat it. He will be very excited about a GF Pizza! We will definately put that on our must have list.

I was starting to think I would have to pack my own Larabar or something to eat while the others in our group are eating at Earl of Sandwich. Good to know about Wolfgang Pucks. I think there are 3 WP locations in DTD, aren't there ? Was this the table service location you were at or WP Express ... ?

contact the special dietary dept. They will send you a form to fill out that they can send to all table service restaurants. And they list what counter service places that would work for gf.

Was this the table service place or Wolfgang Puck Express? When I went to the WP Express in Downtown Disney in January my ONLY option for GF was the roasted chicken with a salad on the side.

EoS is pretty casual and crazy (at least when I was there). So, I don't see why you couldn't carry out from WPC or WPE or McDonald's and carry it in to EoS. Not the most kosher, but you have issues with the restaurant.

Just a thought to keep you from starving while the rest of your group eats.
