Gluten Free and making 4 nights of DDP into 5 days?

So a couple questions!
My Bf and I will be doing the standard DDP for our 5 day/4 night stay at the world. It's our first trip onsite! :yay:

We'll be arriving the first day around 10 and leaving the final day around 6. My first question is making 4 days worth of meals last five days. We have ADRs at CRT which I know is 2 TS credits. I'm happy to pay for another meal if necessary but I'd love to hear some opinions/options. We also have ADRs at Ohana, Coral Reef and BOG. (I also may not keep the coveted BOG ADR as it conflicts with Wishes our final night, and may just opt to do lunch there, but that's a whole 'nother post ) I figured I would just figure out which is the cheapest and pay OOP for that? Is getting the most out of your snack credits the best strategy? Do all QS places offer a dessert? Is there anywhere that I can find a list of what "QS desserts" are? (like is it always something sweet?)

My other questions is about gluten free and breakfast. I've read a lot of people saying to use snack credits for breakfast, but unfortunately I can't eat muffins and I'm assuming most places that offer snack credit breakfasts don't have GF muffins/pastries. A piece of fruit honestly wouldn't be enough for me. Should I just pack some GF granola bars/easy breakfasts with me? Do they offer yogurt?

Thanks in advance! I can't wait to eat all the things!

If you want to figure out how to optimize your DDP, download the spreadsheet featured here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3050182

Fill in your dining itinerary and snacks/desserts/appetizers, etc. The first tab will show you how much you will be paying with the various dining plan options and OOP. The second tab will show which restaurants you should apply to the plan and which you should pay OOP.

Depending on where you're staying, there may be Babycakes cupcakes and/or doughnuts at the resort food court. Personally, I like to stop off at DTD for a Babycakes run at the beginning of a trip to stock up for breakfast. Or I'll save whatever "desert" I got from the night before.

Oh, awesome! Thanks!

We'll be at ASMo. I've heard about Babycakes and am excited to try it! Do the food courts ever have gluten free sections? Am I better off just bringing my own quick breakfast foods?

I haven't seen Babycakes at ASMo yet. They have GF waffles that are really good but not a good value on the DP. The kids meals are a decent value OOP. You may want to bring your own breakfast foods if you don't have a chance to head over to Babycakes early in the trip.

Ok thanks for the info! I definitely want to try out baby cakes but have never done the DTD thing and haven't worked it into our plan yet.

I can't remember the full selection of gluten free snacks for breakfast, but whatever they had was pretty limited. Also, I can't remember the brand of yogurt they sell but not all brands are gluten free. My husband and I generally ordered gluten free waffles and split them (since they are among my favorite)... but if that wouldn't be enough food it might be best to bring some breakfast items with you from home.

Also, it might be possible to make 4 days of meals last 5 but it depends on how big of eaters you are. My husband and I would generally share a qs breakfast, a qs lunch and each use a ts credit at dinner, but if you bring breakfast then that leaves extra credits for other days/times. If you split a meal and need more then you could always pay for a small side item etc.

I thought I had answered this but I guess I didn't.

You should be able to get an Udi's bagel for a snack credit. We were also able to get toast in the past at Pop but paid OOP for it as it's so cheap to pay for 2 pieces of bread (that's how it's rung up but the chef will toast it in the kitchen to avoid cross contamination) so we didn't want to waste a snack credit on that. Unfortunately none of the cereals are gluten free so that's not an option. If you go to DTD you can get some Babycakes treats to bring back to your room eat for breakfast though personally I can't do that much sugar for breakfast. The donuts would be better than the cupcakes as a breakfast food. If you're willing to pay OOP you can bring a loaf back to your room to eat for breakfasts for the next few days.

We typically just bring quick breakfasts for our room. Things like Enjoy Life bars, Glutino bars and Larabars pack easily into a suitcase. This also helps to extend dining plan credits since you're not using any up for breakfast. It also helps time-wise because we can just grab and go while getting ready in the morning.

Why can't you eat muffins? Pop used to carry Kinnikinnick muffins though you have to ask the chef for them.

I meant muffins in the general sense of pastries, as people seem to suggest that on here a lot as a quick, easy breakfast.
Thanks for the info! Is it best to just ask around when I'm there to see what is offered? Will Gf things be listed on menus?

You have to ask.

We always pack easy breakfast stuff to eat in the room, if we're not doing a sit down breakfast.

CS meals are easy to split, if you want to spread things out, especially if you add in a snack here and there, and/or order some of the bigger items on the CS menus.

They do not show the GF items on the menus. You always need to ask for a chef (at resorts; in parks you ask for a manager) to find out just what they have in stock.

You could post this same question over on the DisAbility board as there are a ton of gluten free "foodies" over there and would have a wealth of info for you. Not that people over here don't, but that those with allergies and Celiac Disease, like myself, usually check out the DisAbilities. Good luck. This will be my first vacation gluten free and I can't wait!!!!

For breakfast my GF DD usually eats a Glutino bar. On occasion, we will get GF waffles. At Crystal Palace they made her French toast. She didn't care for Babycakes (she said her mommy's was much better) it was quite a disappointment to her.
