DD and I are staying with my parents until we move to Florida to be with DH. Well DH put those glow in the dark stars in our room for DD. He did a wonderful job, they're all over the ceiling and he made constellations, etc. If you are not familiar with how these stick, they stick to the wall with sticky tack, this putty material. Now I want to take them off, since we are moving soon and also my parents are planning on selling the house within the next year or so. HOW DO I DO THAT??? I rip a star off, and it's so hard to get all the sticky tack off the wall.

Oh, and did I mention that my room has a vaulted ceiling? DH is 6foot so it was easy for him w/ a ladder... I, on the other hand, am 5'2" and afraid of heights! Sooo... any ideas???

It sounds like he needs to come back to fix it, don't you think so?:D

If they are the yellowish coloured ones I would just leave them where they are. Those ones really don't show up too much in the daytime anyways unless you know they are there.

If they are the colourful ones then I don't know how you are going to get them all off ;)

Can you look up the manufacturer on the web? They may have a suggestion.

I read on one of these posts that the heat from a hairdryer will loosen the adhesive of a bumper sticker. Wonder if it might help here. That and a good plastic putty knife to scrape it. You will probably have to remove the residue from the adhesive with a good cleaner like TSP before you paint or you might still have spots on the ceiling.

Guess this is why I didn't put them up after the first time.

serena, how I wish DH would come back to pick them off! :p But when his ship pulls back into Florida, we will be meeting him there and moving in. They show up enough, since they're plastic pieces. At least they aren't stickers, I guess. They're the typical glowing green color. Once you turn the light off, there they are!

Thanks for the suggestion Dan. But will WD 40 leave residue on the walls/ceiling? We were planning on painting the room before we left. Hmmm...

Goo-Gone... works like a charm...(I used it for the exact same thing)

Fasten a sponge to a pole (broomstick) and soak it with goo-gone...rub on the putty adhesive pieces with the sponge until they fall off/melt away...then use a soapy wash cloth (at the end of the pole) to remove any residue....voila...problem solved...!

if it's going to be huge chore, I say leave them. It's not going to affect the sale of your house and whoever buys them might like them.

Yep, Goo-Gone works great too. Ace or Tru Value, Handy Andy (maybe even Jewel or similar willl have). And same with the WD-40 as PW mentions with GG, a little soapy wash to remove oily residue of either.

DD had them on her bedroom ceiling in our home back in Missouri. When I put the house on the market, I removed the stars. They just peeled off. Most of the time, the tacky putty came off with them. A couple of times, I had to scrape it off, but it wasn't difficult. I wonder if your problem has to do with the type of paint you put them on.

Ugh. I moved into an apartment once, and the previous tennant had them all over the bedroom ceiling. I could not reach the ceiling so I just left them there. They were awful.

All I can think of is maybe a long, extending scrubber or scraper, and trying to get them off that way? But of course that will either drip or get stuff all over whatever is in the room.

I feel for ya. I hope you're able to get them off, because I think they last forever...

:teeth:

I put these up for my nephew and also did the planets for him. I didn't even think about what would happen if they wanted to take them down, lol! :sunny:
