Global Warming is.....

Global warming is....

  • a dire and immediate emergency that we need to deal with.

  • A problem, but we have time to fix it.

  • Not that big a deal.

  • A total myth.

  • Other?

That was the best rule of the old DB (when it was followed). Ah, the good old days..............

::yes::

I agree that we don't know, that is what is scary and we should be prudent. :thumbsup2

If people are going to start a thread they should post their opinion as part of the OP.

Agree or disagree?

IMO it pretty much looks like somebody trying to stir the pot when they don't.

Start a poll.

I voted total myth......if you were in Maine yesterday when the temp was 5 you would have agreed!;)

Even if man-made global warming is a total myth and isn't happening (and I that a pretty darn big IF), I don't see a down side to a clean enviroment and less dependance on fosil fuel.

::yes:: Even if there is no direct proof, I don't think it's a leap to say the unnatural polution we cause is going to have an effect. It's only logical IMO to take steps to reduce it.

I think the Dis is a good place to come and chill and have a good time. If you want to start a thread and post your opinion - Great. If you start a thread, but don't really have an opinion, but think it might be an interesting thread - Great. If you want to start a thread just to stir the waters a bit - Maybe not great, but I don't think it is that bad of a thing.
People like to discuss things. Many of the topics that get discussed I have an opinion on, many of the topics I don't. If I see an interesting question (like Papa Deuce did in this case), and think it might provide some interesting conversation, than what is wrong with posting the question (with or without my own personal opinion)
Are you saying that we should be limited to posting only about things that we have strong personal opinions about? Think about it, most of the people who originally come to the Dis come to find out more about WDW because they don't know enough about it to plan a great trip. Does that mean that they shouldn't post a question unless they already have a well established opinion? I hope not.

Yes we all should take immediate action including but not limited to:

1) Immediate shut down of all power plants and factories that have any emissions whatsoever;
2) Immediate non-use of all cars, SUVs, trucks and any other vehicle and/or piece of equipment that utilizes an internal combustion engine, and we can all walk every where we need to go.
3) Immediate use of candles instead of any other light source (oh I forgot #1 would get rid of all power anyway.)

This should be a good start. But oh wait I forgot, this could place us back in the dark ages, ummmmm, is that a good idea then?

Oh well if we all do it, it will inevitably go far to cut back on Man's huge contribution to global warming of .000000001%.

AND most importantly, it will make us all FEEL better about ourselves, because we would be such good stewards of the environment.

I posted my feelings about people not posting their opinions when they start threads, nothing about whether people should post things or not. I've also said all I have to say on the subject, time to let the thread get back on topic whether we get the opinion of the OP or not.

I think a lot of what is blamed on global warming is just natural earth cycles.
I'm curious why you think this - the scientists who study global warming have shown that the rate of warming we are seeing is too great to be explained by natural causes. Do you have some information they don't have, or are you just going with your gut on this one?

I think people should only post opinions when they have an opinion or a post that they are opinionated about, also if a post is made without an opinion and the opinion in the post is.....oh I lost my train of thought nevermind.;)

Again, nothing wrong with posting a thread without posting an opinion if it allows for interesting convesation. You basically told Papa Deuce that he shouldn't have posted this thread unless he had a personal opinion, and I disagree with you. Not only does he have the right to post a thread without an opinion, but if it causes interesting feedback than he should be encouraged to post more such threads (with or without personal opinions).

This thread has at least two very different, very contraversially sides to it, and whether Papa Deuce or you or I have a strong personal opinion is regardless, it is an interesting thread (I think we can both at least agree on that)

I work at a University that has a pretty well respected ecology division and I have spoken at length to researchers because I have a concern about the state of the environment due to overdevelopment and eradication of species. They have reinforced my belief that while there is a definite need to change our actions because we are harming the environment, there is quite a bit of hysterics being published. Much like every single other hot button issue.

I said a lot of what is blamed on global warming is just natural earth cycles, but I did not say by who. I specifically did not mention scientists because not everyone touting the doom and gloom is a scientist. In fact, most of them are not. For example - we are having (up until this week) an unusually wet and warm winter here. Every day without fail, there's people on the news offering soundbites as to how this is a sign of global warming because it's so warm. Um no. We've always had cycles of warm winters.

I gave my opinion, just like you just did. I told nobody what they should do.
