glass bottom boat?

We liked the glass bottom boat in Nassau. It wasn't spectacular but it was a nice boat ride on the ocean and the kids saw quite a few fish. It wasn't crowded because they split the group in 2 and there are 2 shifts. My kids enjoyed seeing the fish (they were 10 and 8 at the time) and it was a nice 2 hours. We aren't snorkellers so this was a nice way to get out and spend a little time on the ocean and still be able to get back to the ship and enjoy the uncrowded amenities. We had been to Nassau before and the kids were adamant that they didn't want to walk through town, so this was a nice little excursion. Also, we didn't want to spend a lot of money on an excursion, so the price was right for us too!

We went two years ago and didn't think it was worth it. There were some bad fumes from the engine and that made it hard to stay down in the cabin. We were with a large family group making it difficultto plan a snorkeling excursion. I think part of the problem was that my expectation was too high. I expected a more modern boat with better facilities. The one drink that was included was a rum punch, and that did not seem very appealing. However it was close to where the ship docked.

Overall I would rate it a C-.

We did the one in Nassau and hated every second of it! Granted hubby and I are divers but our kids are not and neither are my inlaws and all of us thought it was a yawner! You get on this big boat (it was nice) and go out. Once you get to the spot they take you down these treacherous stairs (dd and I actually fell going down them and I got a pretty good bruise on the tailbone) and it was freezing in the bottom of the boat. The tour operators were not down there with us so we just stood and looked at fish but had no idea what kind they were or anything. The basement of the boat and the rocking got me, dd and mil sick so we went back upstairs. We did this excursion because it was the only one all 3 kids could go on at the time (we had a 3 year old) and it was cheap but now we know why it was so cheap...it was boring to ALL of us. We would have been happier just staying on the ship swimming all day if that was the only excursion we could take. We actually had a lot more fun hiring a taxi to take us around and show us the local areas and stuff...even our kids said that was more fun than the glass bottom boat.

We did the Nassau glass-bottom boat and it was just fine. Nothing spectacular, but a good, safe choice for families with younger kids (we had DD9 and DS6) for whom some of the more exciting trips aren't appropriate. We also didn't want to spend a whole lot of time away from the ship and the glass-bottom boat is close.

We made two stops and didn't get to the shipwreck because of "rough seas." I get the feeling there frequently are "rough seas," however, and that sometimes it's code for "the crew doesn't feel like making the extra stop." You also get to see some of Paradise Island, including celebrity homes, which was kind of neat.

We had no problems with fumes, sickness or stairs. I think it's a matter of what your expectations were vs. an objective good or bad rating.

Oh thank goodness for your post, Jestocost, I thought I was really out of it! As I mentioned previously, we thought the glass bottomed boat excursion was just fine too! The person who was on the microphone on the boat was able to identify quite a few fish for us and we didn't have any problems with fumes, etc. I'm sure you can even begin to compare it to snorkelling but for us non-snorkellers, we enjoyed it! Again, not a spectacular excursion but it is a pleasant memory!
