We had reservations at Hunting Island State Park, SC for next month. They called today to let me know our site had been changed due to beach erosion. Unfortunately, new site was in the woods with all the mosquitos. I called dh and he said to postpone to the fall to get a beachside spot. This is the fourth time this trip has been postponed! :(

Good to know we will be at the Fort this fall for sure!:cool1:

:scared1: I know all about H.I. in the woods with the mosquitoes! We were planning on meeting up with family there for a few days in June. Hope their site is OK. (We're just gonna pitch a tent on their site since it's only a few days and it'll leave more money for the Fort.) It's defnitely a big consolation to know you have Fort ressies in your hip pocket! :thumbsup2

BTW, we're in the CSRA, SC side, in case you didn't notice my location. Nice to see a fellow South Carolinian on the DISboards! :)

(note to s0elf: mosquitoes are bad in SC, maybe not a good idea to camp there;) j/k

:lmao: There are mosquitoes, BIG ones. True dat. But the're not bad on the ocean side of H.I. campground, only in the wooded sites, and believe me they are bad to the bone...your bone! :rotfl: SC has some great camping if ya know where to go. :thumbsup2

BTW, in spite of the attack of the killer mosquitoes, H.I. is beautiful! Semi-tropical, au naturale, untouched beaches. A historical lighthouse that you can climb, marsh walk and my DB and DSIL like to kayak. ;) The fishing's good too. There's a pier or you can surf fish and there's also a lagoon that some like to fish in, but again....the mosquitoes. Not good, not good at all. Been known to come home with literally buckets of conch shells and sand dollars, why I don't know, we just did.
BTW again, don't go to the picnic area to hang out....the ANTS will eat you then. If they don't the yellow jackets will. Only go to the picnic area for the lighthouse. I only warn you because you're a fellow fort fiend and I care.

My brother lives in that area. Used to be in North Augusta, now lives in Aiken. My mom lives in Aiken too. It is beautiful down there! We prefer the Upstate to be closer to the mountains.

Small world. I might even know them and not know it.

USC, go Cocks!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 My cuz just recently went to the Wives Traning Camp. Got to go in the locker rooms and lots of behind the scenes places. She said it was AWESOME! In High School, I was in the marching band and we competed in Williams-Bryce stadium. What a thrill! Side note: Our band also marched just before the 3:00 day parade at MK! Super thrilll! Also performed at Sea World...thrill status on that..not so much. That was many moons ago. Go USC GAMECOCKS!

:lmao: Just what we need....DRUNK mosquitoes. Hope it doesn't make them more aggressive. Yikes!

You've apparently never experienced our mosquitoes. On Hunting Island, they look more like swarm clouds and they attack all at once. We hafta use spray and an oscillating fan under the awning. Believe me, you'll still care.
