Giving up a seat on the bus

Just wondering what peoples feelings were about giving up your seat on a bus. We were on a full bus going to the parks. DH was carrying DGD who is 2 and not one person got up to give him their seat. We were on another bus just me and DH and an older lady got on, now she was much younger than DH, but he got up and gave her his seat. Just wondering how people feel about giving up their seat for someone. I feel it common courtesy to do it. Also when my kids were younger and it was a full bus I made them sit on my lap to free up a seat for someone else. I didn't see many people doing that this trip. Is it just me or do others feel the same as me?

We haven't encountered any bus etiquette today.

I'm not sure if you're reporting in from the World or in regards to my post, but these types of threads pop up rather frequently and don't end pretty... So just because one hasn't come up today, doesn't mean there haven't been numerous ones in the past (all with the same outcome...)

Sorry didn't realize there were other threads already open on this subject. Can the mods close the thread?

Well soon to be 50 here soon and I will give up my seat for a lady kids or what every if they need it.
Cause one day I may need a place to set and hope some one gives me a seat.

And if I was to just set there and not at lest offer my seat my mom would kill me LOL and shes been pasted on for over 27 years.

Ron.

I would give up mine for an older person (older than me) and for someone carrying a child.
I would like someone to give me a seat at the end of the day ::yes:: But I have stood many times.
DH will give up his for anyone older than him....man or woman or someone with kids.

DH (66) gives up his seat for older or women holding babies. The only problem I see are small children taking a seat when their parents lap will do while older folks are made to stand..

I will give up my seat for someone who really looks like they need it regardless of the reason. You have to be more than just tired though because I'm likely exhausted myself. Someone holding a small child would certainly qualify. I've been there!

If you need a seat then you stand aside if there are no seats and wait for the next bus. It your responsibility as a parent (or grandparent) to provide a safe ride for your child. I have waited for the next bus several times. Also not all people who look healthy can stand on a moving bus. Dh prior to back surgery could not. If he did try he would likely fall and if not be in severe pain the whole time.
Do I give up my seat on a crowded bus, in most situations yes. Do I enter a bus expecting someone to give their seat up for me, never. That imo is rude

If we don't have kids with us, I will give up my seat to anyone older or to a child or someone holding a child. If we do have kids with us, we'll put them on our laps to free up seats.

I am grateful to this day to the young woman who gave up her seat when I boarded the bus from MK after fireworks with a double stroller, DD4 and DS1. DW was in the shops and I didn't want to wait. I know, foolish. In any case I am grateful for the act of kindness.

I'm 50 now, but probably look younger. I pray I get a seat, and I don't give it up. After two knee surgeries, one on each knee, I need prescription pain meds to get through a day at the parks. At the end of the day, my knees are KILLING me, but you'd never know it just looking at me. I try not to pass judgment on other people (including children) because you never know what hidden medical stuff they may be dealing with.

I always offer my seat to someone with a baby or young child, or elderly. I don't think I ever had to stand with a child in all my trips when they were younger, so I figure I am returning the favor.

Just commenting on my bus experience on my current trip.

If anyone in my group needs a seat, we will not get on a full bus. We will step to the side and wait for the next one.

Once we've waited for a bus with seats, I will only get up for a senior citizen or someone with a clear mobility issue. I'm not getting up for someone who made the CHOICE to get on a full bus while holding a kid.

I wouldn't hesitate to give up a seat for an older person or someone holding a child either. I would like to think we are raising our boys to do the same by example. Holding doors for people, waving 'thank you' when someone shows you road courtesy, saying please and thank you to a server or anyone who shows you kindness. Unfortunately, I see less and less of these behaviors, especially on the roadways and it makes me sad.

I might give up my seat, and I might not. It depends on how much it looks like someone else needs the seat, and it also depends on how I feel. If it's on one of those bendy buses, and I have a seat, I am NOT giving it up for ANYONE because every time I have ever stood on one of those buses I've gotten motion sickness and almost vomited and almost fainted. And if the bus at the stop was one of those and it looked like I might not get a seat, I'd wait for the next bus.

If it's a full bus none of us will sit. My DH gets frustrated with me because I have health issues but I won't sit unless there are plenty of seats.

I usually have my kids with me and always appreciate a seat (I have been offered one many times on the bus and the monorail). But we have traveled a few times without our kids and always offer them to people with small children. :)
