Have you give BLOOD Lately?......Today was the Blood Drive at work, Myself and the 2 ladies next to me decided yesterday that we would all go and donate an arm. It felt so great and we got a T-shirt and bunch of great snacks and juice afterwards. I have never been fond of needles and it comforted me to have 2 people with me to keep me from panicing and chickening out. It was painless. We had a blast giggling like a bunch of school girls and generally having a great time. Well my small rant is I would have donated blood even if we didn't get the T-shirt and snacks. . There is a younger girl who sits 2 seats to the left of me at work. She must be almost straight out of high School. She is generally rude sarcastic and plain mean. We tired the friendly route with her in the begining and have resorted to just ignoring her. When we went to give the blood we were filling out the short form with all the questions to answer she walked up to the table we were sitting at and asked the lady heading the drive if she could have a t-shirt. The woman said sure fill out this form and give blood. She got an attitiude and said" I have rare blood I can't donate, plus I am pregnant." The woman said she was sorry but couldn't just give her a t-shirt. I almost fell out of my seat I couldn't believe she just thought she could get a t-shirt and it isn't like they are something fabulous. They are cute but forgive me I don't think that they are that wonderful and I didn't need it as an incentive to give blood. The 2 other ladies with me just sat there in awe. I mean how Ghetto can you get....She just screams it and I hate to label anyone with anything but she takes the cake for me. SIGH!!

Some people! To think she actually had the gall to ask for a t-shirt.

I am glad you gave blood :)

you guys should hear the stories denise tells about this girl!! they are hilarious!!! LMAO just thinking about them!!!
and dont believe her about giving blood and having fun. they giggle like school girls all day! :bounce:

to denise: ha ha i told on you!!! call me!

I always try but I always get turned down..... my iron level is too low :(

Kim, my iron level is usually really low also. I give platelets when I can. I try to remember to take multi-vitamins for the weeks before my appointment, and it usually helps.

Yay for all of those who donate blood!:Pinkbounc

I try but don't know if when I'll be able to talk myself back into trying again. The last 2 times my blood clotted before it was finished. 1st time was after I was almost done and the next before they really go started. Just hate the needles and now it just doesn't seem like my body want's to give up the blood :(

I got a t-shirt last time, didn't get to donate but since I still ended up with a needle in my arm I didn't feel bad.

May I say THANK YOU to those who give blood! My mother has Bone Marrow cancer & her marrow no longer produces red blood cells, therefore she needs 3 pints of blood every 2 to 3 weeks to stay alive.

My mother has 0 - type blood (that's O Negative) & there always seems to be a shortage of that type of blood since it is the universal blood that can go to anyone but O- blood people can ONLY receive O- type blood.

So if it helps for you to know....my mother would DIE if it were not for the blood she receives because of wonderful giving people like YOU!

God Bless you & please spread the word at how important it is for people to donate blood (& platelets).

(And I think it was pretty rude of that co-worker to ask for a tee-shirt!)

I gave yesterday at work. The worse part for me is the needle, I just turn my head so I don't have to look at it.
Mishetta - Sorry to hear your mom has bone marrow cancer, that's got to be really hard to deal with.
I have a question - How do you give platelets? Is that usually done the same time one gives blood?

I miss being able to donate blood, it always made me feel "lighter". I used to donate every three months, even ran the blood drives for my Air Force unit. Then one day they (Red Cross) said people who lived in England during a certain period could not give blood any more - something about "mad cow" disease. I was stationed in England for three years - no more donating. Thanks to all who can give blood for giving the gift of life, wish I still could :(
