Trying to decide if the Halloween party is right for our family.

Facts:
-We are DVC owners and have been to WDW several times
-family includes Me, DH, DS (11),DD(8)
-we have APs so buying tickets to the event wouldn't save us at all
-we have never been to MNSSHP
-we would go on Nov 1st
-meeting rare characters is neat for me. Not so much an interest for the rest of the fam
-we like low crowds
-we enjoy a good parade and fireworks every now and then but not a must do each trip
-when talking about MNSSHP kids loved the idea of trick or treating in MK

I am so on the fence on if we should go and have fun or if it would be a waste. Any help would be appreciated

I say yes especially since you've never been before. You can wait in line for the rare characters and your DH can take the kids on rides because the rides are always pretty empty during the parties.

Sounds like you are a great "candidate" for MNSSHP. However, to make everyone happy, you may need to split up. DH and Kids trick or treat and ride while you are in line for a rare character. Meet up for Parade and fireworks. Rides have low waits b!ut rare characters do not. Enjoy

-We are DVC owners and have been to WDW many times - If you have been to WDW many times, this is a great way to try something new.
-family includes Me, DH, DS (11),DD(8) - It's a great event for the whole family
-we have APs so buying tickets to the event wouldn't save us at all - There is an AP rate on tickets that saves you a few dollars per person, but not necessarily a lot overall. I also think there was a DVC discount.
-we have never been to MNSSHP - Again, great chance to do something new.
-we would go on Nov 1st - Might be busier with the Halloween crowds still possibly being there.
-meeting rare characters is neat for me. Not so much an interest for the rest of the fam - Jack and Sally was a 2 hour+ wait about an hour before they came out when I was there. So, I waited 3 hours to meet them. The 7 Dwarfs was also over an hour.
-we like low crowds - Great way to ride rides with a shorter wait. 7DMT was still 30 minutes when i was there, but shorter than normal.
-we enjoy a good parade and fireworks every now and then but not a must do each trip - The Halloween Parade and HalloWishes are two of my favorite shows at WDW now. They were great!
-when talking about MNSSHP kids loved the idea of trick or treating in MK - It is a lot of fun, but got some candy that I had never heard of before.

Normally I would recommend it, but now a WDW site is predicting that Splash Mountain will be closed for refurb during the entire month of September, October and part of November. With less to do at the MK, unfortunately, I will be skipping the party this year.

One ride closed for refurb seems pretty drastic to skip MNSSHP especially since the Halloween specific activities are usually the main draw.

Given that the Party is pretty pricey, and that we could just add another day to our park hopper for a lot less money (or another Universal day), I don't think it's drastic. And, for me, the short ride lines are the main draw. So I can't recommend the Party this year.

I think that for you, not attending is a good idea. For the OP? I think that one attraction down is not an issue. They still have all the rare characters (for my family, that is all we did one party...DGD is a character junkie) that awesome parade and fabulous fireworks display. Then the trick or treating is fun, shorter lines, and did I mention that parade and fireworks?

To my knowledge, I don't think Splash was open at my party. Normally it closes for EMH, and i think that was the case for the party. I could be wrong. There are a lot of highlight rides at MK that can make up for Splash either way.

Another option that I came up with that would be fun. The CM's the Haunted Mansion go all out for the party, so that is actually one ride I would not miss if you go to the party.

oh that is a good Point!!. We went last year and thought the ride lines were really Long; our first Party it was almost walk on.. Even for an exclusive "Party" I felt 30 minutes was too Long to wait.. Especially Splash and that I think that had to do with BTMRR being down while we were there. IASM was also down too.

I am not a Parade type, but I did really like the Halloween Parade,, the dancers were awesome.. so that is worth it. I could see that again and again. characters would have been nice,, but I would have kicked myself for spendiing 400 Dollars and we "waste" hours for one Picture. Ffor me it Comes down to Money. For some almost 400 for a night of fun is like for many deciding if they should all go to the movies or not.. for me it's a lot of Money to let Kids Trick and Treat for a few hours.. Take 100 of that any you can buy a lot of higher Quality stuff at Walmart in the Hallween aisle.
I am on the Fench again for this year. But only because we live in Germany and this is really the only time/way my Kids can enjoy Halloween. If we lived in the states, we wouldnt be so excited. 400 is for our Family also 2 TS Dining experiences; or DD getting BBB AND DS maybe a fishing experience.

Normally Splash and BTMRR are open for the parties, just last year, BTMRR was down.. and being right next door, caused Splash to have longer crowds, plus it's a ride that if often affected by weather and that bottlenecks Things. I would assume that Splash being down this year will have the same affect on BTMRR this year... At least that one loads faster!!!

I also thought that with IASM being down last year, PPF ( which always is crazy) and HM had longer lines.

do your kids like to go trick or treating?
that was the highlight for several in my family....
they were willing to just stand in the trick or treating lines all night...
i have to agree that aspect of it was fun.

and the park had a sort of special feel to it..
plus a lot of the people were dressed up...i mean the guests...in really cool costumes..

i thought it was worth it one time...i'm not sure i'd do it again...but we definitely enjoyed it...even just for the atmosphere..

we would go on Nov 1st

-we like low crowds

This is the very first time they have done a party after Halloween night, so no one knows what the crowds will be like for this party. Halloween night always sells out, so it could go either way. Everyone does the party on Halloween, so Nov 1 is relatively uncrowded OR everyone who couldn't get a ticket to Halloween opts for this night and it's still crowded.

No, it's not the first time. It's been done many times. And the 11/1 parties typically sell out as well.

My apologies. For some reason I thought Halloween was always the last night. Glad to know OP has some historical data to go on after all.

We love the party and would highly recommend it. We typically don't do the rare characters because the lines are ridiculous. The trick or treating is a blast and the rides have always been walk on's for us. The CM's really get into it too. Worth the added ticket.
