I've decided to extend my Easter at Hilton Head trip and go on down to Disney for a few days after Easter. I've got points, plenty of points, but I figure everything DVC will be booked up by now. I'm going to call tomorrow morning anyway.

But....here's the back up plans. I know I can get an offsite room, but I'm an onsite kinda gal. Offsite is last resort. If no DVC room available, I'm hoping for a Disney collection room. In particular, a Fort Wilderness Cabin. We've never stayed at FW and we want to try it. When we have options, ie we've done our booking at 11 months, we usually end up at our favorite BWV. So, now this is our opportunity to try something different.

I've gone to the Disney website and cabins are available for cash. So,now my question is...does that mean I can actually count on getting it for points as a Disney collection choice? Does anyone know? Or will I be looking at the room as available for cash but possibly can't book it? There are BWV rooms available for cash but not for points and I understand why, of course. Just not sure if there is some catch when it's the other way around. A cabin is 36 points that week; a BWV one bedroom is 40.....a change is as good as a rest some times, they say. My daughter thinks we will have to sleep in a tent <g>. I haven't really told her it's a cabin....my little joke!

Wishing you luck getting where you want to stay. Have a great vacation.

Nope being able to book it with cash will have no bearing on being able to use points to book it, sorry.

Answering my own question here after reading the DVC literature: If a cabin is available it can be booked from 11 months to 2 days, except in the last 60 days of use year. So, I think I'm going to be okay!

A few weeks ago, there was a post on the resort board that there was no availibility at all, DVC or CRO, anywhere on property for Easter Week - but you never know. I'm sure that the closer it gets to that week, the more last-minute cancellations.

The Disney website showed availability for the days I want at several resorts, but I obviously didn't complete the reservation, as I want to use points.
I'll know for sure in the morning! I started a call to CRO but I got an 'all circuits are busy' message, so gave up quickly!

Exactly. Inventory changes minute by minute at Disney. CRO doesn't do wait lists as far as I am aware, so anything is possible.

The good news is I called MS this morning and was able to book Fort Wilderness Cabins! I also booked 1 night in a DVC resort -Wilderness Lodge Villas. Booked the dining plan along with the one night. This is starting April 10 and there IS availability at DVC if you want one bedrooms -I was not offered studios or 2 bedrooms. OKW, WL and SSR had 1 bedrooms for various days that week, but not for all the days in a row that I needed - would have had to change resorts. So, I'm changing anyway although I could have booked FW Cabins for all nights. I also could have booked Disney collection rooms at a couple of moderates and at Grand Floridian and Yacht Club.
