My DD and I are scheduled to go to a mall sleepover with our GS troop this Saturday night. It's our first time doing this and I know we'll get no sleep. We will be locked in from 9:30 p.m. until 6:30 a.m.

From what I understand, there will be activities scheduled throughout the night and each girl will get 2 slices of pizza and one drink for the night.

Our Leader is going to bring a couple cases of water and some chips and cookies. I'm planning to bring my own comfortable chair that I can take from activity to activity in case the leaders don't get to participate (or don't want to participate) in some of them. We have 20-25 girls and 6 leaders going.

Do you suggest that we take anything else? If you've done something similar, do you have any advice?

TIA!

I would bring some snacks if they are going to be up all night. I'd also bring some extra blankets and maybe a sweater in case it gets cold in the mall.

Very cool idea!!! What mall is it that is having the camp-in?

I would also bring a flashlight. Have a great time!!! :)

The Mall at Steamtown in downtown Scranton is the mall that they do this in every year. We've never won the lottery to be able to participate before this year.

I love the idea about the Excedrin! It'll be going in my bag. :thumbsup2

Fruit and baby carrots are another great idea.

Why a flashlight? Don't you think they'll keep the lights on for us?

Ear Plugs!!! Girls and chatter and all night!!

:thumbsup2 My troop is doing an overnight to the Philadelphia Zoo. Unfortunately we had to cut some adults so my co and I flipped a coin and she is going.

Our troop did it here last year and they will do it again this year. They turn down the mall lights at I think 11pm? There is still PLENTY of light to see. Don't plan on much sleeep. They had several stores open til about 1am in the mall (girl stuff stores: Build a Bear, Claire's etc...) so the girl COULD shop if you wanted them to. There was a movie they showed, dancing and all sorts of activities! The girls really enjoyed it!!

Have fun!

That's all I need is for them to turn on a movie! I'll be snoring before the opening credits are finished. :lmao:

I didn't hear anything about stores being open. I do know that each group has to take a turn straightening out the bathroom. Luckily, our group is going first, so after the professionals do their thing and they open it up again at 10:30, we shouldn't have much to restock, etc., since our turn is at 11:00. I think we lucked out with that one.

Our leader has a grand plan of going for breakfast after all is said and done. I told her it depends on how dead I feel at 6:30.

I did the sleepover in the Mall at Steamtown when I was in Girl Scouts!! They did have a place to sleep (if we wanted) or watch a movie if we didn't want to be in some of the activities-- it was right in front of where Steve and Barry's is now, so hopefully some of your girls will want to do that and you can get a break! :thumbsup2

I definitly agree about the excedrin and snacks. Bring tissues/napkins too! As I recall, we were all sick because of the crazy PA winters, and the pizza place was open for an hour to eat (and had NO napkins). Don't forget your toothbrush/paste-- and especially real soap!

Have fun!! Your troop will love it! I still go to the mall and think about how Virginia slept under that bench, and the three hours we waited for our karoke song to finally come on!!

I remember doing this with our Youth Group. We had ours at Franklin mills Mall, and at the time is when they had the 69th street Gallery which had laser tag, bowling, video games, you name it. It was really neat, and we had a lot of fun. I know we did end up crashing early in the wee hours, but it is still some thing I think back fondly on!!

I've done similar overnights, but not in a mall. Very cool! I'd bring a hand towel. I find washing my face and brusing my teeth and drying off with those harsh paper towels kind of icky. Definitely bring a warm sweatshirt or fleece jacket in case it gets colder at night. And a lot of leaders brought Excedrin PM - the kind with the sleep aid! I never did, but l never slept more than an hour or 2, so I probably should have! The girls will probably love it. I'll bet there will be a few adults saying 'shhhh!' all night. I never understood why they bothered - staying up all night chattering is the most fun for the girls, and if any adults were expecting a decent night's sleep, they picked the wrong activity! Hope you and your troop have a great time!

LOL! I read about this on son's college website (The U). They were looking for volunteers to help chaperone. I thought it was a neat idea. We love the Steamtown Mall and were just there on Monday. Hope you have a great time!

AIR MATRESS!

I am sleeping at a Children's Museum next weekend with my daughter's Brownie troop, and my air mattress in on top of my list to bring.

I'm sorry, but I have to correct you. The correct vernacular is "da U." ;)

That's where I got my BS and MBA. :)

I hope they get a lot of volunteers so we old ladies can leave the young ones to watch the kids when we need to catch a few z's.

I'll second the air mattress. also a sleep mask and ear plugs.

DD graduated from there a couple of years ago and she called it "The U", but then she had a few profs. who would not have tolerated the other!

Good choice for your degree:thumbsup2

Hope you guys survived!

I really like the air mattress idea. DS just bought one for when he goes camping with the boy scouts. I think I may have to break it in for him tonight. :dance3:
