Ok, I just heard on a NY radio station that a Giraffe in AK was struck by lightning yesterday.

Can anyone give more info on this?

I read that this morning. It's a first at WDW, but that type of thing has happened in many parks across the country. They have lightening rods around the park, and they can move the animals inside. Apparently this storm moved in quickly.

There was no word yet on whether or not any park guests had witnessed it.

The assumption is that, due to its height, the giraffe recieved a direct strike. Lightning can do some pretty wild stuff. Last night I was looking at an article on lightning safety. There was a photo in the article that showed about 30 cows that had lined up near a fence when a strike hit nearby. Due to ground conduction, all 30 or so cows dropped dead where they stood. They looked like they had been neatly lined up.

Wow, that's scary. I know that lightning is very unpredictable, and it can strike miles away from a storm.

I feel bad for the giraffe, however i'm glad no people were harmed. I always think that lightning would strike the SE in EPCOT.
