Really silly question coming:

K, I've always wondered...does anyone ever eat the gingerbread houses? Do they just get made up with all the yummy gingerbread and candy and then sit there? Are you not supposed to eat them b/c of the whole sitting out thing? Does anyone make them and then eat them not long after? (I've never tried to eat one, I'm just curious).

We tend to eat most of the candy while decorating!

The kids do pick candy off from time to time but that Royal icing is like cement so it doesn't come off easily. The gingerbread is yummy when it's fresh but hard as a rock after sitting around a few weeks.

As for dust....well if you can't see it why worry?

We never actually eat the gingerbread house. We kind of make it - move it back and forth from the top of the fridge to the table.

For those in Central NJ - check out Candyland on Main St. in Somerville. Cake decorating, candy making, etc. They have pre-made kits, molds, and all the supplies you will ever need!!

I think if I ever make one (down the road when we have little ones) I'm going to want to eat it immediately... I'd have to find an edible icing to "glue" everything together with.
