Hi everyone.. Just wondering for anyone that has used the ginger candy for naseau/upset stomach while at Disney, how exactly did you use it? Meaning do you chew one pc. of candy just before you went on a ride that you thought would make you sick, or do you take it when you start to get an upset stomach??
Will one chew at a time be good?
Does it seem to work pretty good/fast?/
Thanks..

I don't really know about nausea, but if you get upset on the "other end", anything with peppermint oil in it is good. Peppermint and cinnamon Altoids both have peppermint oil in them. You can also buy peppermint oil capsules at a vitamin store.

I am not sure about exactly when to take it, but on the show "Mythbusters", they tried out several preventions for motion sickness. They would take something before getting into a spinning simulator, and ginger pills were what they said worked best. My husband is going to try it next time! Good luck! :thumbsup2

Ginger pills. You can get them at any healthfood store or even Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, etc. I pop two of these about an hour before we hit the parks in the morning and than take one or two more throught the day. I used to get bad motion sickness but since I have used the ginger, I can handle it. Granted, I refused my daughter's request to ride Mission Space for the third time in a row (didn't want to chance it!) but I could handle and enjoy everything!

Good luck!

I don't get sick on rides (except for the darn teacups) but I am prone to motion sickness on boats, so I did a lot of research on this before our Disney cruise last year. Ginger has been the subject of several studies on motion sickness, and apparently it does work for some people as a preemptive remedy. I doubt that ginger "candy" would be as effective as ginger root capsules, however.

All that being said, we had 3-foot seas for the entire cruise, I never felt a wave, and so I never popped a ginger tablet -- don't know if it works for me or not.

DD18 is a firm believer in ginger Altoids. Not as a preventative though. They do seem to relieve nausea or acid stomach, they just don't keep you from getting it in the first place.

I get motion sickness very easily, so before we went to WDW in Jan 05 I went to my doctor and he gave me a prescription for meclizine (antivert) 25mg. He told me to take a couple of ginger pills before I left for the parks for the day and then a couple in the evening if I needed them. He then told me to take the meclizine only if the ginger didn't work. I never needed the meclizine.

I've taken the ginger pills every trip since and still haven't needed the meclizine.

Another vote for Ginger Root, you can get like 100 for $5 at Walmart. I've used it on every cruise we've taken, works wonders!

I did a lot of reading about ginger before our Christmas cruise in December. We had a few days of rough seas, took the capsules and it seemed to help. No one was sick. My son did a transatlantic crossing in February with 20+ ft. seas. He took his ginger and was fine when many of the staff and crew were sick. We are true believers in ginger capsules. :Pinkbounc

They used to give Ginger to cancer patients to help with the nausea. Not sure what It would do for motion sickness. I usually keep ginger snaps around the house....
I would read the package as I am not familiar with the ginger pills, but ginger in itself is fine for children. It looks like alot of people have had success with the pills, and they are not a prescription so why not try it!

As for peppermint- that can act as a stimulant.. (to get you goin..if you know what I mean) :stir:

Sorry to hijack your thread but I am a big believer in alchol swabs. They are easy to carry , dirt cheap and work in seconds. You buy a box of 100 for about $3 in the pharmacy section. They are the little pads you would use to wipe out a cut or sterilize earrings, hearing aids, etc. I keep them in my pocket. The second I feel queasy, rip open the packet, put it by nose and inhale deeply. In seconds I am fine. This works great on rides and airplanes.

Good luck

I never heard of the alcohol swabs trick. I'll have to try that!

I would test ginger before you really need it. I tried some, then had DH drive me around for a while and was very disappointed when I started to feel sick, just like always. It sounds like ginger works for a lot of people, but you wouldn't want to find out it doesn't work for you while you were at WDW.

Where in Target or Walmart do you get these ginger chews or altoids? I've looked in both stores by the checkout counter and can't find them?

I've gotten ginger altoids at Walgreens.

And ginger ale, ginger candy, ginger snaps, all that contain that ginger something does help alleviate the symptoms of nausea -

and I loved the Mythbusters on this!! They were very surprised, they said it worked better than the patch for motion sickness!! They were doubters too before doing the test!!

Hi.. I know Target carries the altoid ginger flavor right at the check out by the gum.. Never tried those either but will grab those too.
As for the ginger chews, I got mine at an all natural food store, I tried to get them at GNC but they don't carry the candy, they do carry the ginger tablets/pills, but when I talked to the lady she said that she had heard the ginger candy worked and that she thought it might work faster than than the capsules?? This is my first time trying it, but figure what could it hurt, but nothing.. I have read allot on it that it is suppose to work for tummy upset/nausea?? Hope we won't even need it, but never know I guess..
I have never heard of the alcohol thing, but for me I have allergies to strong things, so not sure I would want to chance that..
Anyway, hope you find the stuff in your area too.
