Ok,Ok, don't flame me when I post this, but rec'd the much posted about gilcee (or whatever) print with my planner. Let me first start out saying I've been going to WDW since it opened -all the way from Seattle-and now that I am a DVC member, average about 3 trips a year, a true disney lover. Now......why did we get these prints? I personally don't want it (gasp!!!!)and find the planner, as nicely done as it is, to be big and bulky. I just happened to take the front card off the box it came in and there is who are members, member #'s and for me, my password onto the DVC site!!! Not saying that any of this isn't very beautifully done, but alot of money could of been saved by perhaps asking we memebers if we wanted this or not.

OK guys, like I said, no flaming me.........just my opinion.

(...........i have my fire extinguisher out.............)

I had the same thought about it, but I also have thoughts about the bands that play at OKW around the pool, it seems they are getting a little loose with our money. At any rate I thought the same.

Well you can send them them right to me if you don't want them .I have space for them to hang up.

I think they are nicely done to remind us that we have many options as DVC owners.

It's great word of mouth advertising when someone ask where it came from and what it means when they see it your house.

Everyone knows it's word of mouth that sells and not some TV add they saw while on vacation.

:teeth: I'm in agreement. Big waste of money at our house! Although my girls did like the birthday cake box with the pop-up candles that the print/planner came in! I would rather have had them use the money to begin fixing the computer program to track home resort on transfered points!!! Something that really has to be fixed!

Wow!! I thought it was a great surprise. Send them my way if you don't want them!!!!

I was very happy to get to mine, love it, my friends ask wow DVC sent that to you? must be nice. (yea it is) :cool1:

I had no problem with it. I don't think too much of my money went to the production and mailing of it.

Anything and everything that I get from DVC is an "aw, shucks" moment!
Yesterday our giclee arrived, and today I got an e-mail reminding me of the various "specials" available as a DVCer on my upcoming trip.
The older I get, the more I appreciate anything that makes my heart "smile", and when it comes to Disney, I'm ear-to-ear smiles! :goodvibes

Like the others above "IF YOU DO NOT WANT IT PM ME AND I WILL SEND YOU MY MAILING ADDRESS. I WILL EVEN PAY POSTAGE"

Another man's treasures is another man's trash.

I will treasure mine when it arrives. For one thing I like the fact that all the resorts are included in the print. Makes a very nice "neighborhood" statement.

Seems that especially on these forums there is a very much a " home resort" attitude instead of a DVC neighborhood. Therefore I will be thrilled to get mine, showing my Home Away from Home and my neighbors too. :thumbsup2 For I truly enjoy staying at my neighbor's home as much as I do my own.

I am not flaming anyone or even sharing this because of the fact that some are not thrilled with this but sharing to give you some perspective why it is a thrill for me and the fact that sometimes what seems wasteful to some is a gift to others.

In that last 2 years I have lost almost 20 friends or close friends of friends to very tragic accidents or cancer. One was 3 years old and most were between 18 and 27. Just this week a dear friend lost 3 of her best friends in a horrible accident near New Orleans due to a ladder falling out of a truck working there due to Katrina. Three were lost in a very tragic fire, 6 in a very tragic accident where all were under 21 years old. :sad1:

My point. Life is short and many times it just plain sucks, and I look very hard these days for joy in the simpliest of things.

The glicee print is one of them. It just made me want to laugh when I saw the photos posted here and I am sure when it arrives I will be just like a kid opening a gift. It will be just another of those unexpected sparks.

Awww Sammie -- These past two years must have been horrible for you. I swear, if your print doesn't arrive soon...I'll send you mine.

I think what I liked the most about receiving this little surprise is that it reminds me that existing members are still important too, not just the new prospects DVC is trying to snare. We were just at WDW last week and I wore the hat I received at the Welcome-Home-Wednesday. I can't tell you how many times I received a "welcome home" while walking by the DVC kiosks...it made me feel really special to be acknowledged even though I was surrounded by thousands of people!

The print was an unexpected gift that made my day!!  Its so cute.

DVC has a lot of special get togethers during the year that lots of DVCers get to enjoy, but not all of us due to the specific time of the year that they have them. I also missed out on the free ice cream because I didn't take a tour :rotfl2:

I think sending the print was a great idea and one that I appreciate!!

A Free print on canvas with Mickey showing the BWV & all the other DVC resorts--- what could be better.

Just think--- they could of spent the money on another billboard!!!!

--->me too

now that I am a DVC member, average about 3 trips a year, a true disney lover.

-->me too

Now......why did we get these prints? I personally don't want it

--->fine, throw it in the trash. It's not increasing your dues...any problems?

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I was always taught that when you receive a gift, whether you really "like" it or not, you show appreciation.

With as many members as DVC has, do you really think the cost per member is "that" much? I don't. And as far as postage, well, they'd have had to send us the planner anyhow, so again, the incremental cost is minimal.

Would this have been something that I would have seen in a store and run in to buy? Maybe, maybe not. But I sure as heck am glad that I got it! For those who are not that excited about it, there's always ebay -- whatever you get for it is a gift. :teeth:

I was like a kid in a sweet shop yesterday when our print arrived all the way from the USA. We had no idea it was coming and all the kids thought it was fab.

To me this is what Disney is all about, going the extra mile and really caring about people and of course a little bit of exhuberance with it. At least our money is being spent partly on us!

love my print! :)

Hey Debbiepump... We got ours after much waiting and anticipation. I have to say (don't flame me people) that I can't really find a place in our home that this print will fit. It is cute, but it is not something that I will place on our walls next to our Mort Kuntsler prints. I really liked the planner more than the print (don't flame me, just my opinion). I hope this didn't cost membership too much to produce and distribute.

First, let me say that I have not yet received my print or planner, but I am very excited to...wait every day for that mail!

However, the OP raises an interesting and VALID point. These are our MFs that paid for this surprise. And as we all know, our MFs go up just about every year. Also, there have been several threads on these boards about the pool temps....pool temps were lowered to save $$$...and yet here they are spending money on presents. Which would you rather have...warmer pools or the giclee and planner? Obviously, these two things are not necessarily related to one another...I am just using it to illustrate a point.

Don't get me wrong...I will appreciate the gift when it arrives, but it seems like many of us are talking out of both sides of our mouths...saying on the one hand "I don't want my fees to keep going up, but by all means, please send me free gifts." I don't want to put words in the OP's mouth, but I believe this is the sentiment being made.

I totally see that point. And while I wouldn't have "voted" to receive the print (if we'd been given the choice), I do like it and am fortunate enough to have a "fun" room that it fits perfectly in. It's not something I'd be able to display anywhere else in my home but my scrapbook room, though.

I'd rather keep fees down and skip the gifts. And instead of gifts, why not make more DVC-specific merchandise available for us to BUY? That would generate profits for Disney (and only those who truly want an item will end up with it) and not raise our fees. A win-win situation! :teeth:

I don't mind Disney Vacation Club gifts — as long they're paid for out of the marketing budget (Disney's money), not out of the operating budget (our money).

I don't want my dues increased to buy a gift for me that I don't even want.

I hope the canvas print was paid out of the marketing budget.

I totally understand the OPs point, although I think the print is way cute . However, I am with Horace on this one, I hope this was paid for out of marketing and not our fees. I would rather, as others said, keep fees low, and skip the gifts! Plus if we paid for it, is it really a gift?
