Go to Toys R Us and type in "beyblade" and you'll get a ton of responses. They're basically old fashioned tops with a rip cord you pull to start them. They're mostly under $10 and they're are lots and lots of different ones. You're supposed to battle with them. They even sell a plastic arena. My DS doesn't battle anybody, he just has two of them and loves to play with them. He also loves magnet sets....2 brands I can think of are GeoMags and Supermags. You build with them and they're really neat. My DS8 also loves Knex. He got the Ferris Wheel kit from Santa and was able to do about 90% of it without any help. Love, love, love Knex. Also, he's been asking for games for his Gameboy Advance. He would like any kind of game, not too picky. We recently got him one of those Scholastic digging kits. Not sure what you call them but they have dinosaur bones inside a big rock and come with a little chisel, hammer, safety goggles and you chip the rock away and get the bones out and then build a model dinosaur. He adores this. Last but not least...he really likes the game Rush Hour. It's a one person game kind of a solitaire type thing where you get the car out of a traffic jam. It's pretty tough, I enjoy it too!
So, here's my list:
1)Beyblade Tops $7-$10 Each
2)GeoMags or SuperMags-range in price from $20 on up
3)Knex-Ferris Wheel set was $40
4)Game Boy Advance Games-$15 on up
5)Scholastic Dig up Bones Kit-$17
6)Rush Hour- $18
Hope that helps!
Oh, as far as books go, DS is on a "dog book" kick. He just read the great illustrated classics Call of the Wild and is now reading Shiloh. We've also checked Big Red and Howliday Inn out of the library but he hasn't read them yet.
