Gift Suggestions for 3 year old

My little one is going to be 3 this coming Sunday. (where does the time go.. sniff sniff)

I know Ive had 4 before him, but its been awhile. I want to get him things that he will continue to play with for awhile.

What did your little ones love?

Hes entirely too much into video games like his big brother and I want him to have other stuff to play with!! Yes hes 2 and actually can play Super Mario Sunshine and knows what he is doing....

How about the Rescue Heroes Command Center? My DS loves the Rescue Heroes. He is 5 now and has been playing with them for a few years and he has even ask for the new Mountain Command Center for Christmas.

There is always the tried and true Legos. My DS loves to build with them.

My DS 4-1/2 loved his Buzz Lightyear action figure, I would also agree that the Rescue Heroes Aquatic Command Center is a big (and large) hit, if you have the extra room for it. I have also been able to find double packs of Rescue Heroes using mysimon for the same price Toys R Us sells the singles.

Another thing he really likes is his Al's toybarn Race track..I found this at Kaybee on clearance (I think I got it for $15), it is a full blown electric slot car set made by Tyco.

My DW is not a huge fan of the video games but some of the one's my DS likes are Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bash and Buzz Lightyear.

If you have a PS2 and bought Finding Nemo on DVD/Video, there's a $10 off coupon in it for Finding Nemo the video game only on PS2 though. Hope that helps give you some ideas.

My almost 3 year old (12/11) loves trains. He plays with the Lincoln Log set everyday. I plan to get him the Geotrax starter set (sp?) for Christmas.

My friends son loves the rescue heros. How about an art desk? They last a long time and materials can grow with age.

I started buying DD educational toys (math desk, writing desk). She has used them for the past two years.

Does he have the Thomas trains? DD got the basic set last Christmas when she was 3. She plays with it alot and even older children who come over like to play with it as well. Heck, I think DH has more fun with it than she does .

I also second the Thomas the Trains. DS got this last Christmas and loves to put the track together. It is educational as you have to "figure it out" (there are directions too), you can make different tracks and DS even uses it as a speedway for his race cars. He likes to put the movie on and play with it at the same time.

Matchbox Cars and race sets...your son is now old enough for them. My 4yo carries a couple around in his pockets all the time.

Rescue Heroes. Santa brought the Aquatic set last year and both kids love it.

Playmobil. My sister started them on in last year, and they only have the sets she bought, but they love playing firemen almost every day!

On a side note, I went through a major cleanup of the bedroom and playroom last week and those are the things that are staying, along with all the toy story stuff...the other stuff is going to the rescue mission. I've made sure that the family gets the boys gift cards for books (both love them and the older now reads to younger), or more lego sets or something in the groups above. I took pictures of the playroom in it's horrible state and sent them to the family. It's hard when everyone is out of town!

Thomas Wooden Trains--great toy for that age--and they have a lifetime warranty.

Along that same note, there is a Thomas train attachment for the computer. Kids can drive Thomas around and do "work". (My son is an "electronics" kid too! Video games, computer games, internet, etc.)

Almost forgot about those and they usually have a good deal at Sam's Club or COstco where you buy the movie and the train comes with it for just the price of the video.

Here's a vote for a "cross-gender" toy....

I bought the talking Princess Magic Mirror for DD when she was 3 and DS (2 tomorrow!) loves to play with it. They both also like the Magna Doodle so much that they've worn out both of theirs...but no worries, Santa's bringing them both a new one.

We have a 3 1/2 DS, and this year some of the things he is getting are a Leap Pad, Legos, a Playmobil Christmas train, a piggy bank with some change already in it, some Matchbox cars in his stocking, a subscription to the magazine Your Big Backyard, and an arts and crafts box that I put together with scissors, tape, glue, glitter, pipe cleaners, finger paints, tempera paints, watercolors (and a smock), markers, chalk etc.

Other things he loves are his Lincoln Logs, his blocks (Legos, Megabloks, wooden -- it doesn't matter), his computer games, cars, trains, and books. He isn't interested in plush at all despite my mom's best efforts.

Fisher Price makes a really cute Little People nativity set that we got him last year. You can get it Target.

how about some Hot Wheels stuff. My boys were very into Hot Wheels when they were young & still collect the cars.

They have lots of stuff to choose from these days. Or maybe a dump truck. My boys had of them each & we only got rid of them last year, or even a tractor....all good boys toys & will last for years, good sturdy stuff.
