Gift idea for 4 year old girl?

Here's the story:

DSIL asked me to get a certian hot toy for my niece. I get said toy and an accessory set. I am done shopping for neice. Well, DBIL hears about the tests on the 3 pets that had concerns and has now banned said gifts from his house. Niece can not have them. I am going to take them back but need another idea for something for niece.

I am a bit annoyed that he didn't mention this a few weeks ago when i had time to snag a deal but any ideas? Ideally, the item would be something that is loud.

Any and all ideas are welcome.

my DSis sent my DD4 an instrument set, cymbals, a triangle, the works... boy do I love her. Dont forget the every so popular bucket of beads(same DSis gave to my other DD several years back) their vacuum will love them.

A am assuming you are talking about the Zhu Zhu pets? Didn't the Consumer Protection people say those tests were not right? I heard they were totally safe.

If you need another idea, how about a few books? Or maybe something from the Littlest Pet Shop collection?

I think I'd talk to your sister again and see about giving her the present you planned. You worked hard to find it all, I'm sure your niece is looking forward to them, and the pets have been cleared of the potential issue (which even when tested incorrectly was just barely over the limit). If your sister is still worried, I'd wipe them down with a damp towel before letting her play with them to remove anything that may transfer when she is using them. As long as she isn't sucking on them, there shouldn't be a problem anyway.

You are correct I am talking about the Zhu Zhu's and yes they were cleared. They are totally safe. But SIL and BIL are alarmists. And no amount of data will make them change their minds. These are the same people who own a mercedes and lexus SUV because they are better than their honda or toyota counterparts because they are made by lexus and mercedes.

I know my niece would love the pet as it's all she has been asking for but i am not going to rocj the boat at christmas. but it doesn't mean i can't get her something that will put a smile on my face right?

I second the music set. We got DS(3) a drum set and guitar from Santa this year (yeah, I know... lol). Kids that age love music! She'll love it and it will drive the parents nuts

My daughter just turned 4 today and she was easy to shop for. She loves anything girlie or dress up. She has a few dress up sets with magic wand, clip on earrings, purses, sunglasses,tiaras, skirts, she loves it all. She is also constantly trying to do her own hair so she goes through headbands and elastics like you wouldn't believe. She also loves lip balm, especially all the yummy lip smacker flavors.
If you really want something that makes noise those there are a ton of cute guitars, keyboards even harmonicas!

I second both the musical instruments and the finger paint. Or playdoh. That stuff tracks everywhere. Oooh what about moon sand. That stuff probably goes all over the place!

Love this post reminds me of gifts between my brother & his kids & my kids:

1) Casio keyboard
2) Moon Sand
3) Paint Set
4) Polly pockets (you thought Barbie's shoes were tiny...HA!)
5) Pretend Barbie cell phone - (the ring tone alone drove me batty!!!!)
6) Play doh


Let me say...my DH LOVED each & everyone of these gifts...me...not so much

I am wondering what I did to annoy my mom this year. She got my DD15 an electric guitar with amp , DD10 a keyboard and DD7 an accordian . I must have really made her mad!

Does the amp have a headphone plug? I made sure the one I bought my DS did!

The playdough activity center is a great gift, only about $30 and is basically a lap desk filled with playdough and tools to use with the dough. My kids love playdough!!

Craig's List is a good idea, I am sort of done worrying about it, her birthday is in Janurary so I figure she can get them then. I may check tongiht though if I have a minute, thanks for the suggestion. I had not realized people had come down in the prices.
As for the amp, gosh I hope so. Good suggestion...
