I'm not taking about the "huge" ticket items like computers or iPods. I need help with the middle of the road gifts. I ask her what she wants and she says "I like books." lol Thanks Allie.

Anybody can help me out? My 6 year old is easy as is the baby. I just want to give my 10 year some things that she'll enjoy.

What about a couple of boxed sets of her fav series? I teach fifth grade and could recommend a few.

Please do! :)

She reads on a pretty high level and always scores well beyond her A.R. Goal.

Thank you!!

Does she have/has she read the CS Lewis Narnia books - I always loved those as a kid and may read them again soon.

I have a 10 yo girl (5th gr).

This is what she's reading:
Harry Potter Series
Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson) series
Icefire series (by Chris D'Lacey)
Twlight series (all the 5th gr girls are reading this ;))
The Candy Shop War by Brandon Mull

She's no longer into "toys". She had a long list of video games she wants. She also likes jewelry.

If she has an iPod Touch....get her the Jindle App and an amazon gift card for books.

The Kindle App is free.

She can take her books with her everywhere she goes.

Hey Matt,

Right now, my fifth graders are devouring...

The Lightning Thief series (Fantasy)
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series (Graphic Novel --- Most are on a 6th grade reading level though)
The Name of This Book is Secret series (Mystery)
39 Clues series (Fantasy)

Some of the girls are also reading Twilight or New Moon due to the movie being out. This is not something I recommend to parents though because I feel that the themes are a bit too mature for 10 and 11 year olds especially the last book in the series.

For more titles, I recommend visiting the links below. They will bring you to the International Reading Association's top book lists. Just open up the year you want to see and scroll to your daughter's grade level. They include summaries of the books and even some covers to give you a visual.

I hope this helps!

My DD (now 12) has always had a giant list of books she wanted also - still does. She reads far above grade level, but that doesn't mean that everything she read was in that range. Once you hit a certain point, even some classic books will be under your range, since it is based on the breadth of the book's vocabulary.

At any rate, some of her favorites in 5th grade were...

• Twilight (she read New Moon and Eclipse in 6th grade, but we have banned Breaking Dawn until she is a bit older)
• The Beacon Street Girls series
• Anne of Green Gables series
• series that begins with Among the Hidden (don't know the series name, but it also has Among the Brave, Among the Free, etc.)

5th grade was also when she started to be interested in necklaces, bracelets and fancy hair things. She also started to show some interest on cooking so we got her a kid's cookbook (Williams-Sonoma, I think) with recipes she could do without help.

Have fun!

One thing you need to remember, too, is that children typically comprehend fiction books at a higher level than non-fiction. The research has shown this for the past few years. Because fifth grade begins that time when they are exposed to more non-fiction texts, you might want to include a few of these when you purchase books for her.

Thanks everybody! :) I'm going to make a list of these and head to the bookstore this weekend! Nikki you are so right about the fiction/non-fiction. Allie loves non-fiction as well. She's a history buff and loves the Beatles. I found her a kid's Beatle book and I'm searching for her some history books written on her level too. Thanks!

Maybe some kind of scrapbook type thing. Something she could write in(like her favorite ...), maybe paste pictures into.

Another thing you could do is make a donation in her name to a local charity...
