Gift for those that help us move

I dont know what that mean?:confused3 My back problems are nothing related to moving, I have scoliosis, spina bifida occulta, and extra disc, 4 extra bones that join my spine to my tailbone, my tailbone sits 1.5 inches higher than norm due to the fused bones, and more. Im not trying to get a debate on here nor am I asking about hiring movers. Our friends that have offered their assistance, are the only ones helping us, and that is more than enough. We dont live in a huge house and we do not have a ton of huge pieces that need moved. I was just trying to get good ideas for some small gifts to give these guys that will help us out. I do thank those that have given some good ideas and am still open to ideas. I did not expect this thread to turn into one where people are questioning my way of moving, my vacations, health, professionalism, etc.

So sorry thats my typo. I said if OP had back probablems then so will her friends, however, you did expalin that you were not bringing all the furniture.
Meaning..in my experience Moving = back pain soreness fatigue, etc. on the workers. Its rough work. I am sorry if you read into it wrong. I am the one who is all about privacy and dont really care how many vacations people take. I was not looking to find out about your personal health. Sorry i didnt convey it correctly.

I still think a gift card to send them to dinner is a great idea. Good luck!

OP,you're very thoughtful to think of your movers!I do want to add that when we moved eight years ago,we hired movers, and it was the best money we've ever spent.Four strapping good lookers went up and down those condo stairs like pistons! Tipped them really well at the end-offered to buy them lunch(they declined)-movers are the way to go if you can.

Not just a reply for the OP but anyone in general who may be moving soon;
Many cities have off duty firemen who will move you at reasonable prices. Best money I ever spent.:thumbsup2 First time I ever enjoyed watching a move. :rolleyes1

Firemen earned extra money, and were happy...
Hubby was happy not to have to move us...
Friends were happy not to have to help us...
I had a smile on my face all day. :rotfl2:

** You can hire them by the hour just for the heavy stuff like furniture or large boxes of clothes. ( save your friends backs!) and get assistance from your friends for the lighter stuff.

When we owned a truck we were always asked to help people move or carry things home. We didn't mind furnishing the truck, the time or the gas, but neither of us should have been lifting. I have to agree, sometimes it is hard to say no to friends, even if you should.

OP-It is nice that you think enough of your friends to thank them with something!

sounds like OP knows what to do....get things packed and ready, have plenty of food- BTW,we've moved a couple of times, our friends and family help out, can't imagine NOT having that....we do the same for them!:thumbsup2

I agree, it must be a regional thing (we're in the west and there is a "chip in and get it done" attitude around here, we're very community oriented as a rule). I have helped countless people move and when we move people help us. Isn't spending time with your friends and family what those "precious weekends" are for? If someone doesn't want to help, they don't have to.
!

I think weekends here are more precious, just because of hectic lifestyles. In order to live here, you need, at minimum, a 6 figure combined salary (and many only have one income). Usually, that means long work weeks (I know plenty of DH's who try to get home from work by 9 pm), and if both work, weekends mean grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry, not to mention games, music lessons, household projects... I'm guessing we have about 4 free weekends a year, and we're always shocked when we see them approaching on the calendar. I finally arranged a get-together with a group of old friends, and it took about 6 months to finally find a date that works for most.

BTW, there is nothing I'd rather do on weekends than spend time with family and friends - I have 2 parties this weekend that I'm looking forward to. I think it's great that people help each other out, and help them move - it's just not done here, because of time restraints.

I thought it was written 'moving code' that you had to provide those who helped you move pizza & beer?! Seriously. that's all we've ever done for people, & that's all that has ever been done for us.

A free meal is all that is needed to exchange between friends.

When I moved last year, I had family/friends help. I did pay them a little, $50 each. I would have paid more, but couldnt afford it. I did look at movers, and just to move a 1300 sq foot house, they were charging me almost $600! You can give restaurant gift cards-that goes over well.
