I am getting ready to complete my student teaching in a kindergarten class..I have an idea of something little to get the kids in my class, but I want to get something for the teacher also.
My cooperating teacher has been such a great help and is so nice!
I dont want to get her something for the classroom, but something for her to enjoy.
I have no idea what to spend on this or what to get for her..any ideas?

Thanks

I'ma teacher and I always appreciate a gift card to a book store. That way you can spend whatever amount you are comfortable with and she can get something that she would enjoy.

Good luck with your career!

My first cooperating teacher wore all kinds of Brighton jewelry, so I got her some nice earrings and a card.

My second cooperating teacher loved a particular Indian restaurant so I got her a gift certificate and a card.

Good luck! Everyone loves gift cards.

I once had a student teacher make a donation in my name to Habitat for Humanity. I thought that was really neat.

But truthfully, I don't expect anything from my student teachers...they are the poor college kids and I'm the one with the salary. So they usually get the parting gifts from me!

We usually buy a gift card for the local coffee shop..Or a movie gift card, those seem to be popular.:)

Im thinking a giftcard may be the way to go...how much is good? Like someone said, i dont have alot of money to spend ,but i want to get something since shes been so helpful...but dont want to look cheap!

We do 25$ amounts for teachers..

I'm a teacher (1st grade) too, & this was my exact thought before I even saw this post!!!

But, I would keep it small ($10.00 maybe?).
We teachers know that you college students don't have a lot to spend.
The teacher will appreciate anything you give her.

I spent about $50 for each CT (but keep in mind that I'm married and not the sole income). I gave my first CT a gift card to Bath & Body Works and one to a local restaurant. My second CT was a man and more difficult. For the life of me, I couldn't get him to talk about what types of restaurants he went to or anything like that. But I did know that he had built a bar in his basement and he loved to drink beer, so I went out to this beer distributor and got him a big basket of different microbrewery beers. Um, that one, I had to leave in my car to give to him. :rotfl2: You should have seen his face light up, though. I could tell when I told him I had something for him in my car, he was all, "Oh no, WHAT did she get me???" and then the look on his face was priceless when he saw BEER. Like a kid in a candy shop. :rotfl2:

I'm sure whatever you get her will be fine!

The giftcards I've sent in for bagels or even a Blockbuster have always seemed to be very appreciated.

This was a practicum teacher, and not a long term student teaching placement. This was a autistic non verbal classroom in a middle school.

I asked the CT what she would like and she stated she didn't want anything.
I made a CD of pictures that I took of the kids during the practicum and put music on it. I gave the CD to her and she loved it!

I also wrote a very nice letter to the principal telling him that the CT did such a great job and how much I learned from her. The principal told me that he got the letter and put it in her file.

On my last day , I told her about the letter. She was happy and suprised.

I also handwrote a thank you letter to the principal--he thought that was nice as well.

Good luck deciding what to do

I am sure she realizes you don't have much in the amount of cash!! LOL!! How about a nice letter to the Superintendent/Principal commending her as a teacher and mentor!!

In our town we can nominate teachers for an end of year award at our Celebration of Learning Banquet.
