Gift for a family... no food!

We have a family that our family is friendly with, and I'd like to have a gift to give them. The tricky part is that they have food allergies and overall don't like sweets! (homemade cookies, pies, etc... are my usual go-to) Not really into home decor either...

It is a mom, dad, 10yo dd, 9yo ds. My budget is sub $20. Any thoughts to get my juices flowing?

I usually do better with a "family gift" than individual gifts...

That's nice of you. The food allergy situation does make this hard. I'd try a gift basket with gift certificates to blockbuster and a bowling alley or ice skating rink. Stuff they can do as a family instead of stuff they can eat

I am thinking a game as well. Who-NU is a lot of fun for that variety of ages and should fall into your price range.

I'd stick with the game, a couple of older good but sometimes forgotten movie DVD's, the ones you find for $7, or a new one.

Suggestion for a game. I actually haven't played the actual boardgame version, but I think most of us have played the version we make up as young adults: Would you rather be pretty or smart? Would rather do this or that......

I'd go the game route. Two of my family's favorite "everyone has fun" games are Blokus and Apples to Apples. They would be in the $20 range.

If you don't want to do a game, you could do what someone did for us last year. It was a gift card to Blockbuster (or you could use whatever DVD rental place is in your area), plus bags of popcorn, packaged up in a popcorn bucket. Very cute idea, I thought.

Another vote for a board game or 2...Nothing beats a game night for cheap easy entertainment!
