My dear friends daughter will be a Batmitzvah in May. I am Christian so I am not familiar with what would be a good gift for her. I would like to get something special rather than money if anyone has a suggestion. Thank you.
Money, usually in denominations of $18s, representing good luck, blessings, etc.
Savings Bonds,
Jewelry, purses, monogrammed items, gift cards, anything girly girl that 13yos would like. My DDs and friends are big into Vera Bradley, so they give gifts of VB like make up bags, pencil bags, small purses, etc. Pottery Barn Teen has some really pretty gift items as well, like monogrammed jewelry boxes, and other pretty items for a young teen's room.
Hope that helps some!
I'm in the throes of bar/bat mitvah year --DD has 6 in the coming weeks!
Money is multiples of $18 shows that you are familiar with custom.
I usually do $36. Some kids that my daughters know only do $18 or say an Itunes card or such.. but money is the best bet.
We've been goinng to them for about four years (two kids) and we have always given money.
Some parents will even give a note like please don't be extravagant in gifts and some bar/bat mitzvahs will say something like all gifts will be given to charity (if it is charity I do give more) One parent said it is a childs 13th brithday. please remember that!
I went to a couple of Bat mitzvah's growing up-- we gave $50 to my best friend and then $100 to another because both my brother and I were invited. I opened cards/gifts with my best friend and someone gave her a beautiful Things Remembered jewelry box. I think VB is a great idea too-- small purse, cosmetics bag, any stationary.
Money (or its equivalent) is usually what is done.
Little story - - my DH received at his a gold coin from his Aunt and Uncle. All of these years it has sat in the safe deposit box. His Dad found it recently while he was checking some things and had it appraised since gold is so high...that little gift was now worth more than $1,000! Paid for a good chunk of our WDW trip in 12 days .
My DD will be attending one and a few weeks and we will be giving money, planned on $50 but we will make it $54. DD also knew the friend wanted a Book, so we bought her the series. Which made me feel better something personal and something practical.
