Anyone have a good source for discounted Southwest gift cards ? Anyone know if you can use merch credit to buy gift cards anywhere?

I have seen the Southwest gift cards at Target which means if you have a target red card, you could receive 5% off the gift cards!

I thought the discount doesn't apply to gift cards. I'm certainly no Target expert, nor do I have the card but I thought I read that somewhere.

Somehow Disney gift cards come up as "entertainment" and are not exempt from the discount.

I haven't tried Southwest but restaurant gift cards also get the 5% at Target. I buy Chipotle and then head there for 5% less :)

Target giftcards are not eligible for the discount but all the other giftcards or rather "entertainment" cards are eligible for the 5% redcard discount.

I bought a couple of SW gift cards from Target a couple of years ago and the Redcard 5% did work on them then.

Something to keep in mind though is that $50 is the highest denomination Target sells. You can only use 3 forms of payment on SW's website to book your flight so that means you can only use 2 gift cards and then would need to pay the rest with your credit card. If you are only booking one flight and find a great fare, that may be worth it. But for several tickets, I'm not sure it's really worth it.

I know some grocery stores carry SW cards and if they have the variable amount (usually $25-$500) and are running a fuel promo, then that might be the way to go.

I know it's extremely tedious but if you really want to save money you can just book the reservations separately as in a different reservation per person per way. I've done it.

Also, check out giftcardgranny.com as they sometimes have larger denominations and greater discounts.
