Ok so help me out.

When we check in and give our CC for all charges while there... tips, drinks, souvenirs etc.

Then when we go to check out, can I give them a gift card first, then the remaining balance after the gift card is applied can be put on the CC?

Or would it be easier to just use the gift card as we go till it runs out, then charge everything from then on to our room?

yes, you can give them the gift card at checkout & they will then charge the balance onto cc. easy enough all at once.

I charged to our room, then when I knew I had exceeded the amount of my gift cards, I took them down to the front desk and had them applied right then. I did not wait for check out.

I have learned over the years to use my GC the night before I checkout. Because if you have a CC on file they will go ahead and put all charges onto your CC when their system does the update during the night. You can still go down and use the GC on the day you checkout, but it is more work because they have to do a void and then reprocess the info.

I called the other day and added $400 worth of gift cards to our current reservations. I now have a $400 credit just waiting for us to use when we arrive Oct. 4th. The cm made sure to put a note on the reservation to NOT refund the credit, as that is what they would normally do.

I don't want to waste any more time than I have to at guest services when we're on vacation. :)

Do this. Good advice.

Keep your gift card, even if you've had it credited to your room. If, for some reason you have to cancel your trip or you don't spend $400 (ha), they will refund in the manner paid -- so they'd put it back on your gift card. The CMs have always advised me to keep the cards "just in case" when I've paid with gc's in advance.

Do it all the time, but don't wait for checkout. On the morning of checkout they seem to charge the CC on file before you actually check out. Go down during your stay and apply your gift cards to the running balance on your house account.

POR told us to come by before midnight on the night before check out to apply gift cards to the balance. After that the balance would automatically go on the CC on file.

We have been gathering gift cards too, not sure if we'll use it at the actual restaurant for tips and extras or put them on our room card. Is there any benefit to one over the other?

I don't think so. I just thought it was easier to charge to room and then apply gift cards at one time. this way I didn't have to worry about losing one or keeping track of balances left on them.

We also apply our GC's at the end towards room charges and room cost. I rather just carry my room key over having other cards with me.

We like to charge evrything to the room and setle up with the giftcards later. I like having 1 running tab of everything we spend. Also nice to just carry resort I'd.

Can you not add them at check in though? Why wait until the day before check out?

Is there a way to check my charges. I have been to resorts where you can see your charges to your room on the television. I'm staying at POP. Thanks

Tried that, they said they're not allowed to put a credit balance on the account.

Hmm, that's strange. We used to put cash on our account....I guess that's changed. It's been years since we did cash though....late 90's?
