My dd had a bday in June for with all the girls in her class at our house. One of the girls that came gave her a gift card. The gift card was just put in a card, no gift card envelope or anything. The mom wrote from:girls name and $25 in permanent marker. When I went through the gifts, it look liked it was a used gift card and I figured it either didn't have any $$ on or it was a regift because the mom told me when she dropped her off that at first her dd didn't want to go but then changed her mind right before the party ( and no she didnt rsvp:headache:

DD misplaced the gift card and I finally found it under mattress in her room this weekend. I called the number to see if there was any money on it and there is $50!

Now I definitely think it was a regift and the mom had no idea how much money was on it..

Should I let the mom know?( I dont know her and they arent in the same class anymore)

or should I just let DD spend it since they gave it to her?

I would not say anything since this will point out the mistake on the gift givers part and will be uncomfortable.

Best to let this on go.:thumbsup2

Spend it. Think about the possible scenarios for a second.

1. Regift. The person obviously had no idea what was on it anyway and didn't cost them anything in actuality.

2. They paid cash for the gift card and know there was $50 on it but wrote the wrong amount.

3. Paid for the card via credit card or check and since it was a while ago, they know there is $50 now after getting their statement. They don't need to know.

4. The store was supposed to put $25 on and put $50 instead. If you bought the card and know it was their error the honest thing to do would be correct them. Since it was a gift I don't feel you have the same responsibility since you have no reason to suspect that was the case.

thanks. That is what I was thinking. I could care less that it is a regift.. But I hate to have to point out that I know it is!

dd will be happy because she has really wants the new dora links doll and I told her she would have to wait for xmas!

Too much time has passed and it would be an akward conversation anyway. WooHoo new Dora links doll!:woohoo:
