Gift card number theft?

So I bought $225 worth of $25 gift cards from my local Kroger. Got ready to load them onto MDE to pay on trip and one has a zero balance. I have the receipts and the paper that shows Kroger activated all 9. I tried the one repeatedly and it keeps showing zero balance. I googled gift card theft and found a warning about buying cards off a rack that you don't need a pin for. Anyone can use the numbers with a card like this. I know it's only $25 but I am so upset that I got ripped off. I'd never thought about this and was planning to buy several as a way to get gas points and save for a future trip. I won't be buying anymore from a rack where anyone can get the numbers

I've never had an issue with Kroger.

But last night I went to buy something from Best Buy and used gift cards. I put them in the payment page and they all had the correct value. I hit process payment and all of the money mysteriously disappeared.

Trying to straighten it out with Best Buy but I was in tears last night over $115 gone so I feel your pain.

Disney GCs have PINs. They're the last digits which are located under the silver scratch-off spot on the back of the card. Was the silver already missing from the card? That would be an indication that someone may have tampered with the card and stole the money that when it was activated.

Maybe you can call the number on the back of the card. You can get a history of the card from that. You can also talk to their customer service about the missing funds. Good luck! From what I have heard, it can be a run around with Disney telling you to take your problem to the store you bought it from and the store telling you it's Disney's problem.

It could just be a computer glitch too. That's happened to me before, when it looks like the GC is activated, but when I go to use it, there's nothing there.

I'd go to Kroger customer service first.

(My issue was a restaurant GC bought at Target and they just refunded the $).

All my kroger gift cards have had last 4 numbers under sliver strip. plus pin number.

For person with Best buy issues: I had same problem about 2 mos ago with computer system crashing or whatever, it stripped 2 of my 3 gift cards. I called the number and after 3 phone calls and days of frustration I got money back on gift cards PLUS in mail received another gift card in amount of all my gift cards, Who knows what is going on but I'd try calling to at least get your money back. Best Buy is not my Favorite place right now. They had another Royal mess up 2 days ago for me.

Thanks for sharing. I am beyond frustrated with best but but glad you had a positive outcome. I'm sure this will be a big hassle but my son "needs" Disney infinity 2.0.
