gift card issue

Target now has a regular gift card in cardboard. They have to pull off a tab on the back to activate. I feel as if I now have to tell the gifted person why the card looks opened. But I tried one today and it does work. I guess it's just a new system.
So no problems with the digits coming off?

I see this is an older thread, but I just had this happen and I am so frustrated. I called the number on the card and the person I spoke to was not helpful to say the least - she kept asking me what the number of the card was...I'm like, so let me explain again, I don't know the number (seriously, three times; she also referred to it as my "starbucks" gift card???). She said all I can do is use it somewhere that I can actually scan the card unless I have the original receipt - I don't even recall if this was a gift or I bought the card for myself, it is one from a while back. I don't know if it is worth $25 or $500! This is the first and only time I have seen these paper cards and I hope they don't make them any more. I want to use it on my upcoming cruise, but I am not sure it will work (if they have the scanners for them on the ships).

They are still making them, in my recent experience. I have been very careful to remove the strip covering the numbers gently and check the balance as soon as I get them.

I believe it was @gottalovepluto who found a scanner app that can read the barcode to get you the numbers I think it was scandit

If that doesn't work, download the WDW or DLR app, make a mobile order, scan the gift card, it will tell you the number and how much is on it. Write it down, don't complete the mobile order.

Wow that’s awesome i didn’t know you could do that now!!

I still keep one card in my notes and just copy and paste it when mobile ordering

Yeah, we realized that when we were mobile ordering at Disneyland.
Instead of typing in all the card numbers, it asked if we wanted to scan the code, so we said "yes", it turned the camera on, scanned and poof, it worked!

Are they for products to a website?

If they are to the main site such as Disney.com or chase.com then they would work but to something specific they don’t usually last that long.
Yes, that's true but some do such as a specific socks & bras I like at Kohls. I would think a gift card page would last longer than a year but I guess I'm the oddball.
