Gift card issue at Target

Oh my gosh I am having a day. I bought $2,000 worth of gift cards online at Target to pay the rest of our trip off. Went to make the payment and it won't go through. Each of the four gift cards doesn't work. I started by chatting with Target and they referred me to the gift card department. They told me I had to go through Disney. Disney said the cards aren't activated and to call Target back. I've been on the phone for hours trying to figure this out. Targets gift card center person called the vendor (which is not Disney) and they said the cards are active. Tried to make a payment and nothing. Checked the balance and it says something along the lines of card not found. I can't remember exactly at this point. I use gift cards for every trip and have never had this issue before. Anyone had issues on this?

Oh my gosh!! How horrifying for you!! I do hope you figure out how to make it work. I'm sorry to say I don't know how to help you on that.

I will say that whenever I buy Disney gift cards, I immediately upload them here: https://www.disneygiftcard.com/. I transfer all balances onto one (separate) Disney card that I keep in my travel wallet, marked "#1" (or whatever you want to name it) in Sharpie. Then I delete all of them from the Disney Gift Card site so that no one else can get in and hack my account. You do have to add it in every time you want to transfer a balance, but it's some protection.

If you do this right away, you'll know if your cards are working or not. Just a thought for the future.

This happened to us once years ago, but I was able to email them the back of the cards and receipt to the DisneyGiftCard email and they were able to activate the cards that missed activation in the store. I wish I could remember the details, but you aren't the first person this has happened to so they should be able to help. Because you bought on the internet, you should have even more of a "paper trail" that shows you did in fact pay for them and did not use them.

Try asking for an email address that you can send proof of purchase with each of the gift cards on the Disney Gift Card website. If they will not help, ask them to escalate it. They may even be able to transfer the funds to a new gift card number if you are having trouble getting it to work.

Thanks for all the responses. I am going to try the Disney gift card people to see if they can help now that Target says it's out of their hands. I have been getting gift cards to pay for so long and this is my first issue. I just wish it wasn't such a big amount of money.

I had a different issue. I bought a couple of GCs at Whole Foods. They were paper GCs and when I tried to peel off the code it tore the security code off. I contacted Disney with the phone number on the gift card. They had me scan the back of the gift card with the gift card receipt. It took two days but they called me back and asked if I had a card I could transfer the funds onto. I gave them a gift card number and the money was transferred while on the call. Good luck!

I wanted to update, I still can't use the cards as they are showing that they haven't been activated. I hit the 24 hour mark at 2 today. I was hoping that it was just an issue with timing.

Has anyone else bought the $500 cards at Target and had them work right away? I tried calling Target but the wait is crazy right now. I'll try again later tonight. I think I'll just have to get a refund at this point.

I'm so sorry to hear about this...very frustrating. I have purchased $500 cards on-line at Target. I purchase them as e cards and as soon as I get them I activate them and put their value on the Disneygiftcard site that Dizme mentioned above.

That is normally what I do too. This has to just be a weird glitch. I'm so nervous to rebuy them but I really want that 5 percent savings.

The last person I talked to at Target assured me that I wouldn't be out the money. I really would rather they fix the cards instead of a refund. I'm so nervous to buy more cards. I almost bought one today just to test if it would work.

Now, I don't get how this could happen. I mean how could the cards NOT be in the system, activated or not, if they're Disney gift cards? Does that mean they're counterfeit? But if so, what would anyone have to gain by that?

And if Target showed that they'd been activated, what does that mean in this case? How could they have been activated and not show up anywhere?

I know there is a limit to how much $ in disney giftcards you can get using your red card for the 5% discount....this may be part of your problem....I believe the limit is like $500 at a time; not sure how much time you need to wait between buying giftcards, it might be a week

Hi all. I wanted to update that I was able to use my gift cards today. The person at Target asked if anyone had resent the links to me and they had not. She resent them and they worked. Woo hoo! Thanks for all your support fellow DL lovers!
