Girls go to a small catholic school. I usually just give the teachers cash at the end of the year. They spend alot of their own money on supplies(plus I am married to a teacher, so know they dont' need another mug). Wanting to give the religious education guy a gift card...what is a "universal" gift card everyone likes ?? was thinking Panera or Darden(good at red lobster, olive garden, bahama breeze and lonestar) any other suggestions???

My dad's side of the family does white elephant with gift cards every Christmas. The Darden cards are often the most coveted, so I think that's a good idea. Also consider Starbucks (even if he's not a coffee drinker they have other treats), Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or a movie theater. If you're feeling generous you can give a "date night" with restaurant and movie gift cards.

If you are looking to help them with their school supply purchases so they don't have to do it out of pocket, then maybe a gift card from Target or Staples? Or if not for those things and just as a gift, then maybe a good universal option would be Lowe's or a local nursery, with the gardening/yard work season coming up. Amazon.com does gift cards, and I noticed a lot of different kinds available and Wal Mart that might be worth a look. Good luck :thumbsup2

I second the movie theater card idea! That's a great thought! :)

We're giving the para in our son's room a gift card to Cinemark. We saw where you could go online and upload a picture to be printed on the card. So, we're going to put our son's picture on it. Reminds me - I'd better get hopping on that!

For his teacher, we're giving a gift card to Benchmark (a hiking/camping supply store) as she is a backpacker. I want to get something small (related) to stick the card in, but not sure of what yet).

We typically do not spend that much on an end of year gift for the teachers, but this teacher is just amazing and has devoted so much of her time and money to all her students.

I can't think of a single person who doesn't enjoy Target. If they don't shop there often, there will be SOMETHING they could use there. If you looking for more of a treat I'd go with Starbucks. Movie cards are nice but sometimes you can't use them the first 2 weeks of a new movie.

If I am not 100% sure someone can use a specific store/restaurant gift card, I get Visa or Amex gift cards. I have a stack of gift cards to places I don't go and I don't want that to happen with the cards I gift.

Staples, Walmart, Target, Amazon.com, a coffee place (Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks)

Teacher here. My husband likes when I get Barnes & Noble cards because I always share with him (we both have Nooks). Target, Dunkin, and Starbucks are always good too. Not a huge fan of a restaurant card like Darden unless you are going to give enough to cover a meal. I was given a $10 card to Longhorn once, and while it was a kind gesture, I had to anti up more money to eat there- and we never eat out to begin with because of money.

This happened to us with a TGIF gift card. A nice gesture. We appreciated the thought. But it cost us another $20 to eat there.

Amazon, Target, Starbucks are all good. My issue with the restaurants or movie theaters is that I would need child care. Unless the gift are comes with someone to babysit, I won't be able to use it! If the teacher has young children I wouldn't do restaurant or movies.
