Gift Card Challenge: Use 'Em UP!!!

How many gift cards do you have, right now, unused, in your wallet or purse?

Here's what I have:

Barnes & Noble card for $10

Pike Nurseries card for $10

Starbucks card with $2 left on it

Best Buy gift card, no idea how much is on it

PetSmart Gift card, no idea how much $...

Toys R Us, $3 gift card.

These things have been swimming around in my purse for months. Here's the challenge, if you want: Use them all up this month, but don't spend more than what's on the card (ok, maybe a little-it's tough to be exact).

I'm thinking I can do some early Christmas shopping/stocking stuffer gifts.

I'm working on simplifying and streamlining this month, and those SIX gift cards are kind of cluttering...

Oh boy! You hit the jackpot with me!!! Here's what I have in my wallet/ purse/ room/car:
-Starbucks gift card for $25
-Barnes and Noble gift card for $50
-Borders gift card for $75
-4 disney gift cards $50 a piece
-Claire's gift card $7
-3 itunes cards...I think one has $15 on it, one has $10 and the other has $50
-2 gas cards $50 a piece....
I hit the motherload last christmas and I haven't really spent any of them....

No idea where to unload the gift card. I don't think you can do it here, but check with the powers that be.

You could always donate it to a charity and then tax deduct it?

Is it the Disney Store or Disney parks?

Do you have any friends going soon - they might be willing to buy it from you. Also - if it doesn't expire it might be nice to keep as seed money for your next trip.

No fair! I just bought a bunch at the grocery store on Saturday because I wanted to get the last of the 5X rewards in for August on my Disney VISA!

I have:

The grocery GCs will be used up in the first weeks of Sept. The McDonald's and Wawa GCs are for DS17 to fuel his stomach and car. I go through about $60-&80 in pet supplies each month. The Disney GCs and Landry's are for my upcoming trip. And the rest will either be given as Christmas gifts or they will be used to buy gifts.

Until now, I hadn't added it all up. Dang, that's a lot of cash tied up in gift cards!

No idea where to unload the gift card. I don't think you can do it here, but check with the powers that be.

Yeah, can't sell it here. There are some websites where you can sell or exchange your GCs. There was a post not too long ago from someone who got ripped off buying GCs through one of them. You would do best to sell it for cash to a friend or donate it to a good cause like Give Kids the World.

Ridiculous how those things pile up! Wish I had some Disney ones though! I wanted to ask for Disney Dollars for my kids for their birthday instead of gifts but our Disney store closed down. Bummer. If each kid brought $1-5 instead of a gift we didn't need, imagine the souvenir she could choose!

We had an offer from Chase for 5x rewards during June-July-August for purchases made in select categeories (grocery stores was one of them). Chase doesn't get a breakdown of the items purchased at the grocery store. They just get the total spent. So, I hit the Gift Card Mall at the Safeway to get some GCs. Too bad they don't carry Disney GCs or else I would have gotten enough to pay off the balance on my trip.

All of our local grocery stores are classified as "other" Walmart, Kroger, Meijer! No extra rewards there, I was thinking it went thru September. Am I wrong?

I have a gift card for $15 at the Container Store.

We just used up a Walmart--that took a while!

I don't have any others.

I just called Chase and the progam runs from July 1- Sept 30. I asked which stores that I have used before actually say "grocery". The Wal-Mart that I always use codes it as grocery. Everything I buy there will qualify for the 5X rewards. Yeah!

Walmart counts????? Then I may actually hit my $1000 minumum!!!! Never thought to do the gift cards. That is brillant. Can you use a visa gift card to pay on Disney? But what about the start up fees? Doesn't that kind of counteract the rewards?

For the 5X rewards it depends on your offer. People get different ones.
