I have seen post of cruisers receiving welcome baskets from Dreams and I was wondering if those DVC members cruising on points recieved anything from the Club?

Don't count on it, but I could be wrong? I had to fight with DVC/DCL/Disney Club for the first time cruiser on-board credit. We were told that we now have it, I'll believe it when I see it. I will take our documentation with us that indicates that we have been granted the on-board credit, just in case.

our last cruise was done completely on points and our next is half cash and half points. DVC did not give us anything:( Ann

but there was a DVC members cocktail reception in Beat Street...free cocktails and munchies though!

Each family member got a baseball cap just for showing up (& little tote bags for the girls) . There was a very easy (very heavy hints) game show of how well do you know DVC and you could win mousepads, t-shirts, folios, luggage tags etc.

They also had 2 prospective member cocktail receptions as well during the 7 day cruise.

When you'd drop by the DVC desk they often had bubble pens for the children etc.

:)

4megs:
Was the reception for the DVC members special cruise or was it for a regular cruise?

I went thru the same "fight" for our credit. It took three times but they said "it had been noted" we will see...

It would be nice if they would do something "special". I think DVC is great but I don't feel "special". It seems the only time they contact you is to tell you the price per point is going up and would you like to buy more! :p

We did not bother with the DVC reception as we had a castaway club one to go to that week anyhow. Maybe we will stop in at the next one for the caps, didn't know they gave things out at it. Did they try to get you to buy more points?
We have all the points we can afford! ann

Hi DiznyMagic -

This was just a "regular"cruise, not a special DVC cruise. The hostess indicated that it happens every cruise.

Hi AnnMorin -

You'd love the fact that one of their questions is, "What's the % of DVC members who wind up buying extra points onto their original purchase?"! (I think it was around 70%ish).

We're in the same "boat" as you - we can't afford any more points! They don't do a hard sell, but let you know that they'd be more than delighted to sell you some more points if you'd like! LOL!

:)

I think the DVC reception is only on the 7 night cruise. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

We went to the DVC reception on the 7 day cruise. It was just a fun party - no attempt to get us to buy more points. Went with DH, DB, and DSIL who are also DVC members and cruising with us. There was a choice of tropical drinks and munchies.

The prizes were nice, and they made sure that every couple won at least one. I got a DVC beach bag that is the best designed beach bag I have seen. Used it the entire trip. Also got the hats, and other things like key rings.

I have always been impressed at how low key the DVC presentations are, and the party was no exception. It really was a party.

Last cruise (9/28/02) we did with points. I got the 50 credit(from DVC) as well as a really nice gym bag (for being a repeat cruiser) and the DVC member party (hats to all prizes for some)It was PACKED!
This cruise I am doing half cash half points and have been told I will get a 50 credit.

DiznyMagic,

I can't remember how many times I called DVC, Disney Club and DCL. I was going in circles! I finally requested to speak with a manager at the Disney Club and explained the problem I was having. Within one week they had it worked out. To show my appreciation to the CM that helped me, I wrote a letter to the Vice President of the Disney Club. She replied with a very nice letter. I plan to bring a copy of my letter and the letter that the V.P. wrote, just in case.

When I requested the on-board credit, they told me that since I booked with points I was not eligible. I informed them that 1/2 of the cruise was booked with points and the other half was paid in cash and I should receive the credit. However, they felt differently. These are the times that I'm really frustrated with Disney. Our family LOVES Disney! We spend all our vacations and money on Disney ---- all we ask in return are the benefits that other people are getting.
