There has been much discussion on threads that portray the Giclee print as a welcomed gift, while others see it as an unnecessary expense. What do you think?

They were paid for out of Disney marketing costs, not our dues.

It's always nice to get something special from DVC, like the license plate frame, flag pins, prints when you buy.

Do you think they were paid out of DISNEY marketing costs or DVC? Frankly, I don't care. I am just playing the devil's advocate now.

I am glad to hear that, but I have a silly question, how do you know? :confused3

I got it... I don't think it cost as much as Disney would have you believe and they are proably going to make a TIDY profit off the $50 one's on the web.

However, I still think it looks like a fancy advertisement so I don't get the big deal about getting them. (It was paid for out of marketing because it's an AD!)

They are selling for $14-$18 on EBAY so if you don't like it and feel you out the money, sell it on EBAY.

What is wrong with Disney sending us a appreciation gift? I except it with a thankful heart.

Honestly, it probably cost them more to send it than to make it. I thought it was a very nice surprise. I also thought it was great that they sent it to the UK as well, that must have cost Disney a fortune.

I agree with the marketing aspect. I'm happy and will hang it in my home. My youngest DS always refers to my "Disney obsession" so what the heck, I'm already labeled.

I think you are right, the cost was minimal to produce. Which is why I voted "don't care". I am happy for those who appreciate the gift. I personally don't have a place in my home where it will fit in. I will keep it stored as memorabilia. It does make me frown when people relate marketing dollars to free or (meant to be spent) money. This frame of mind causes waste and poor decisions. I am a Disney shareholder, so even if this is not a DVC specific expenditure it still concerns my interest. We used to have a Diseny themed wall in our recreation room and anyone visiting our home got the Disney tour. I don't think it caused one single person to choose to go to Disney. This print being displayed on a member's wall isn't going to cause anybody to go buy DVC. It is simply a Thank You to existing customers and as Olaf suggests probably cost very little.

Word of mouth is one of the best marketing tools around.

So for everyone that hangs this up and strikes up a conversation because of it is another potential neighbor.

They think long and hard on how to get us to be sale people for them . I just don't see them throwing money around that they don't think they will recoup in the long run.

seems to me you can always find someone to find bad and complain about everything.....or is just me.

When my wife and I were taking a 24hr spell to think about the buy in when we were at the World, I spent alot of time searching the Internet from the AKL. I didn't really find alot of negatives and those that I did were about how you cannot make money off this or how it's "not a real timeshare". Both of which were non-consequential to me.

But these prints do serve a nice purpose. This is all my opinion though

First, everyone likes to feel like they are appreciated. A nice print like this would make me think to myself that I am more than a dollar sign to the PTB (powers that be). That I am appreciated for my membership.

Second, when friends, family, aquantences, strangers come into your house (or wherever you display your print) it is a conversation starter. That conversation, if you are a satisfied member, will most likely be favorable which plants the seed in those people who may check out the tour on their next trip to Disney.

So from that sense, it is a good marketing investment. What is it they tell us when you are in sales. A bad experience results in a bad reference which gets out into the world in much greater impact than good ones. Meaning one has a greater chance hearing about negative experiences than good.

We thought the print was a nice surprise and well done. The sad part is we really haven't told many people we own so we may hang it in our closet :rotfl2:

Understand completely. Our family thinks we're mental for having bought into DVC. Of course, then there's the offsite timeshare that my inlaws bought in Orlando, which they've never used.

I was very happy we got it. And I can't wait to have it framed and hung in our house. My house is totally Disney so it will fit in anywhere.

I didn't vote in the poll because I don't know who paid for it. If the members paid for it, I think it is NOT a gift, and it is an unnecessary expense.

If it came out of DVD's own budget, and not from member dues, then it is a nice gift. Deb & Bill is usually right, and if that is confirmed, then I vote nice gift. :goodvibes

Maybe on your next trip. You could hang it in the closet there. :rotfl2: :happytv: :lmao:
