Summer is my favorite season and I hate to see it go, but fall brings some enjoyable things.

Case in point--Ghosts in the Graveyard!

Have you made one of these for your kids? You whip up a couple of boxes of pudding and place it in a 9 x 13 pan. Then, you cover it with crushed chocolate cookies.

You decorate Social Tea cookies to look like tomestones (R.I.P.) and place them into the cookie "dirt." You add candy pumpkins, and viola! Your own graveyard scene.

I love the way this looks, and everyone enjoys the way it tastes.

Cookies and pudding--what's not to like?

That sounds so cute, and delicious too! Great for a halloween party!

I've only associated the term "Ghosts in the Graveyard" with the hide 'n seek type game by that name. My kids always play it in NC where we go for vacation.

In fact, my 18 and 20 year old sons got outside with their sister and cousins and played it this summer.

Darn it Janice I thought you were gonna tell me a ghost story!!!!!

That does sound awesome though! When we were at Dixie Landings......whoops RIVERSIDE John got some worms in the dirt......oh course he took the gummy worms out and ate the pudding and crumpled oreos

You always have the neatest ideas, you should write a book with cute things like that!

YAY! Someone else knows how to play GHOSTS IN THE GRAVEYARD!!! I lived waaaaay out in the country.. I mean waaay out... A couple of the kids from other farms would come over in the summer after chores were done and we would play this game.. of course we would also catch lightening bugs too!

Cool idea! A couple neighbors and I are getting together and having a Halloween party this year... that would be a great treat for the kids!

Yep!

Ghosts in the graveyard was the neighborhood favorite game growing up :) We had a very spooky neighborhood with lots of bats and wildlife and we were right next to a cemetary

Oh my gosh, I loved that game! We played it after church youth group every Sunday. (Great church game! :p )

First you had to play it in the dark. The spookier the location the better.

You have one person chosen to be Ghost, and a certain place or item chosen to be your base. Whoever is the Ghost goes and hides somewhere while the other members count to 100.

After you've count to 100, everyone goes out hunting for the Ghost. When someone finds the Ghost they scream "Ghost in the graveyard!" and then everyone runs to get back to the base without being caught by the ghost. If you're caught before you get to base, then you're the ghost next time around. If no one's caught then the ghost is the ghost again

My Brownie troop used to love this dessert for Halloween...

Kitty Litter Cake
Ingredients:

1 Spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 White Cake Mix
1 pkg white sandwich cookies
1 lrg pkg vanilla instant pudding mix green food colouring
12 small tootsie rolls
1 new kitty litter box
1 new kitty litter plastic liner
1 new pooper scooper

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Instructions:
Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions (any size pans).

Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble.

Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in blender. They tend to stick, so scrape them often. Set aside all but about 1/4 cup.

To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops green food colouring and mix using a fork or shake in a jar.

When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl. Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. You probably won't need all of the pudding. Mix with the cake and "feel" it, you don't want it soggy, just moist; gently combine.

Line new, clean kitty litter box. Put mixture into litter box.

Put three unwrapped tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish, and heat until soft and pilable. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. Repeat with 3 more Tootsie Rolls and bury the mixture.

Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over top. Scatter the green cookie crumbs lightly over the top, this is supposed to look like the chlorophyll in kitty litter.

Heat remaining tootsie rolls, 3 at a time in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs. This is my addition - only: spread 5 of the remaining Tootsie Rolls over the top; take one and heat until pilable, hang it over the side of the kitty litter box; sprinkling it lightly with cookie crumbs.

Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around.

Serve with a new pooper scooper.
