I was planning on sampling an ice cream or sundae at Ghirardelli's :cloud9: but someone I know has recommended Cold Stone Creamery.
Have you any views on which is best?
Or can you recommend anywhere that is even better?

Both are soooo good!!! I didn't know that there was a Cold Stone Creamery near WDW though. Where is it located?

I would spring for both!! You won't be disappointed.

Beaches and Cream also has EXCELLENT sundaes! Try the No Way Jose.

Sorry I'm not much help making a decision. Ice Cream is my weakness...I love it all!

Cold stone is very good, but they are not on WDW property. I think the closest one is in Celebration.

Ghirardelli's is very good and on property at Downtown Disney.

Ghiradelli's is much better than coldstone. Personally, I don't like the taste of the "mixed up" icecream flavors at coldstone. It never tastes fully incorporated, and the whole concept of mixing icecream on a marble slab seems so much like a fad that I don't think will stay around for the long run.

I agree that Ghiradelli is better. It is in a league of its own. We have a Coldstone not that far from where we live, and I think it's expensive and haven't been back in a long time. I prefer the local custard shops. Ghiradelli is too far to take a drive to, and I dream about their ice cream and try to recreate the Foghorn at home - my favorite!

I am hoping that I will get to try Beaches & Cream on our trip and visit Ghiradelli. I don't know though what with all the desserts and snacks on the DDP! I probably won't have room!

Not only do I think you should do both, but I would like to add one :)

the no way jose at Beaches and Cream is my FAVORITE!!!! I just love that sucker. I try to recreate it at home! Yes, there is a Cold Stone nearby. It's in the Crossroads Plaza, across from the downtown disney/hotel plaza WDW entrance. They are all so good, if you do have to pick one, I think you would not be sorry!

Great, now I'm totally craving a sundae.

Thank you all for your advice. Looks like Ghirardelli gets the thumbs up, especially as Cold Stone will require a special trip.

I must admit to having TB's concerns though - shoe-horning a Ghirardelli special in on top of the DDP is going to a challenge. popcorn::

Thanks also to the posters who mentioned Beaches & Cream. I'm thinking of taking time out of MGM DS to go there for lunch as the CS options at DS aren't great. The downside is that I'll have to pay OOP as all my TS credits are now allocated with ADRs.

Cheers :thumbsup2

Beaches & Cream is a fabulous place. Ghiradelli is a great stop when you are in DTD but lately we never go there because my DH and kids are Goofy Kitchen fans and we have to go and make our own candy apples, pretzels and marshmallows. They are incredible and HUGE!! :goofy: I would like to add that Cold Stone has an incredible ice cream flavor ~ cake batter. OMG!!! It tastes just like yellow cake mix. I remember all of us begging Mom for the beaters and bowl to lick.AHHHH....

This IS NOT a Cold Stone Creamery, although the name is similar, I think it's Marble Slab Creamery or something like that. DH and I stopped there in May after a grocery run. We were NOT impressed. The cake batter which I think was called Birthday Cake doesn't even compare to the real Cake Batter at Cold Stone. I would go to Ghirardelli's at DTD or Beaches n Cream at the Beach Club.

Ghiradelli is fantastic...best hot fudge sundae I have ever had (and I'm certifiable when it come to chocolate...I actually visit some locales around the country just to try good chocolate I've heard about).

We have a Cold Stone Creamery here where I live. The mix-ins are kind of a fun novelty but the ice cream is pretty basic. Go to Ghiradelli and have a little slice of heaven on earth (and if you like, eat it on the waterfront at Downtown Disney for extra ambiance!).

:thumbsup2 Tip tip HOORAY!~~ I happen to love CS creamery  and have no less than 3 of them within 10 miles of home (that Ive seen so far) The closest is right across the street from a Dipin Dots! When I am craving ice cream, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world  Ghiradelli's specialty, so to speak, is the sauces, such as fudge, etc... Not that those arent wonderfull, thats just what I thought. The true test for me, is how I feel about an ice cream shop, If I am NOT ordering a sundae. Just the ice cream in a cup or cone

Ghiradelli's is awesome. A hot-fudge sundae is a must for each trip.

I've had all three. Ghiradelli and Beaches and Cream are much much better to me than CS. I like the No Way Jose the best, OMG its good.

What the heck is a custard shop? :confused3

Custard is a very soft, very rich ice cream. It is heaven. I love custard!!

Ghiradelli has the best chocolate shake I have ever had anywhere. Can't wait go in Spet. We always count done to get there to have our next shake!

I like Beaches and Cream. However, it is a TS not a CS. When we were there last Sept the waitress made a point of mentioning that fact before we ordered. They do take the DDE card though, if you have that.

Edited: Oops, nevermind, you knew that. I misread your post. Sorry!

Eww I dont like Cold Stone we have one here. I have had ice cream at Ghiradelli's and it was so good!

Cold Stone Creamerys have sprung up all over the country, not unlike Baskin-Robbins. I tried one here in Pittsburgh, and was greatly underwhelmed. We have a local, non-chain here that's better.

Given then, I don't see how you could chose it over Ghiradelli's, but, of course, it's your call.
