GFC or Kona Cafe for dinner?

Long story but we are taking a spur of the moment trip over spring break (only at Disney is 6 weeks considered spur of the moment lol)

Anyway I was not able to get dinner reservations at BOG and none of the MK options are thrilling me considering we will be there on our anniversary, with 3 kids in tow but still.

My original thought was Ohana but no reservations available and reviews here and elsewhere suggest it may not be worth the cost.

I can do either GFC or Kona for dinner and assume it will be easy w the monorail. Recent reviews aren't great for Kona either but I haven't seen much about GFC for dinner. Thoughts?

I'd suggest looking at the menus and seeing which sounds better. Kona is louder and more exposed, due to its location and the people waiting for Ohana. GFC is more tranquil.

Thanks! Tranquil and less chaotic sounds perfect. Made ADR but will keep checking BOG

We have done GFC for both breakfast and dinner. I can't review Kona- but we LOVED the GFC. Its a must do for us every trip- seafood is good, steaks are good, as well as cocktails. The after dinner stroll or lobby band is wonderful as well. We currently have an ADR for Ohana in May- but debating on the GFC instead as well. The reviews for Ohana seem awful.

Good to hear! I was mostly seeing breakfast reviews for GFC. I think we will give it a try.

The recent reviews for Ohana do seem awful. We are doing the breakfast character meal there at more of a brunch time so hopefully it won't be so chaotic.

We had our anniversary dinner last May at GFC with our 2 kids and we loved it.

It was a beautiful setting at the classic Grand Floridian and very relaxed but felt more special than other restaurants with it being at the Grand Floridian.

We all really liked the food choices including our very fussy 9 year old.

They were very attentive and looked after us as they knew it was our anniversary.

I also arranged a suprise cake and chocolate slipper for DH and I, which we all shared for desert.

I would be happy with the choice you made.

These are the cake and chocolate slipper we had whilst there. It really added to the special feeling

The cake was Up inspired with a white tulip on the plate and quote from one of our favourite TV shows

Tough choice! I like them both very much, but GFC has to be my favorite restaurant at Disney! Great food, wonderful ambience, and impeccable service!

I can't comment on Kona but I love GFC. We tried it for dinner on our last trip and it was my favorite meal of the trip.

Love the desserts! Did you order the chocolate slipper through GF? Or the number to order cakes?

I ordered both through the cake line number. They were really helpful. Hope you have a lovely time and happy anniversary

Absolutely love GFC. Their steak dinner is amazing. It's a must for us every time! We love how quiet it is. Our 13mo did very well there last year and the staff had so much fun with him.

Thanks everyone! I think GFC will be perfect and now I'm glad I couldn't get BOG. Now to order a surprise cake and chocolate slipper.

Wow, we have never considered GFC for anything but breakfast, which we love. We have eaten at every WDW restaurant and are always looking for a new place to go. It sounds like everyone here loves GFC for dinner so we will have to try it. Staying at GFV in September.

Thanks!

I've enjoyed Kona 2x for dinner. Loved their steak. Its a NY strip but done very well. The banana creme brule dessert is incredible. Dinner comes with bread service featuring a macadamia nut butter. Decadent & yummy & unique. My service here has varied wildly. First dinner I had incredible service. Last fall, not so much. Slow and my dinner was cold. One difference was the first dinner was made at or near restaurant opening. My last dinner was at dinner rush of 6pm. Timing of your ADR may be something to consider at Kona. If you are going to Kona, don't forget about Trader Sam's. Kids are welcome before 8pm. Its fun & different. Maybe consider checking it out before your Kona ADR.

The bread at Kona is fantastic! We enjoyed our lunch and dinner there last trip and are heading back for dinner again
