GF Sugar Loaf or BW Concierge Deluxe???

Hi, I have GF Sugar Loaf reserved for 4 nights in a couple of weeks. I have a great AP rate of $370/night. The problem is the last night is not value season, and I had to add it on due to my flight. That last one night will cost me $691!!! That just makes me ill. That is more than the cost of our rt flight!

I could, instead, do BW concierge deluxe for $430/night. The thing is, the cost difference between the two for the 4 nights is not much. I do not know anything really about the BW. I like the look of the place, but....

We have a 14 yr old son, and two little girls 5 and 8. We are usually MK people (except 14yr old). That is our favorite with EPCOT in second place(14yr old's fave). For that reason I am really leaning toward GF. (14 yr old will get over it - he's just lucky to be out of school)

Anyone have any experience with the BW? Especially BW concierge deluxe?? I could probably be talked into it for the fact that it is full concierge. Just don't know about leaving my Magic Kingdom.

I would appreciate any input either way. Good/bad about both GF sugar loaf or BW.

Thanks much!! :earsgirl:

I have always been told that whatever rate you check-in with is your rate for the whole stay... even if the season changes. Did someone tell you your rate would go up the last night?

I think the OP means that she had to get two different reservations, because the last night was an add on.

I've never stayed at GF but we did just return from BWI Concierge. They were wonderful, such nice people, really enjoyed the expirience. As for getting to the Magic Kingdom, it was a nice bus ride. The morning we went over for the CRT breakfast we headed for the bus stop just shortly before 7, thinking it might take a while for a bus to arrive. Nope, the bus pulled up just as we sat down to wait on the bench and took us dirrectly to MK, no stops. Well, it did take a group to Contempory first for Chef Mickeys, but it was a quick ride. We were WAY early and it was raining, so we had to stand under the roof by the entry gates. I was a long standing time, since the buses had been so efficient.

I too thought if you were simply adding on a night to an exisiting reservation, they had to honor the rate. I would double check that with your TA or CRO.

We are also GF/MK people, but we recently tried out the YC concierge to please our older kids. They and DH love Epcot and MGM. I did miss seeing the castle, but it was a lot of fun staying in that area. From what I've read about it, the BW has a geat concierge level. Look up user KerryCM. She goes there quite a bit and just loves it. We used the YC/BC bus transportation to the MK and it really couldn't have been easier. They drop you right at the entrance now. No more going to the TTC and then having to take the monorail over. The pre-planning staff there is excellent. Very warm and friendly bunch. That's a tough decision, but I'd definitely check on the accuracy of that rate change before making up your mind.

I can't help you with Sugar Loaf........but I did just come back from a stay at the Boardwalk in a concierge deluxe room. One word............fabulous.

2 queen beds and one sofa bed. It's sort of like a standard room with an extended sitting area where the sofa is. The sofa bed area has it's own chest of drawers and TV, plus an easy chair. We never opened up the sofa bed, so I can't speak to it's comfort.

We've only had 2 concierge experiences....Yacht Club and Boardwalk. The BW made us feel SO much more comfortable. The lounge is like someone's living room. The CM's can't do enough for you.

I understand your wanting to be close to the Magic Kingdom....but I must say that this location, just a short stroll from EPCOT and a 20 minute walk to MGM...........can not be beat.

Good luck with your decision,
Debbie

Thanks guys, for the quick replies. Yes, to clarify (I hope) - I made the reservations before I finalized my flight. I did have to add the extra night on to my original reservation. (we had to shift everything to be able to visit those Florida inlaws - sigh) The original stay was in value season and I got the great AP rate. The night I later added wasn't in value season and they didn't have AP rate available for any rooms at the time I reserved it. I tried calling back several times to get an AP rate and some CMs tell me there is hope, others say no hope. That if someone cancels, the room will just go back into rack rate room category because it is a busier time and they can sell the rooms at the higher rate. The main building concierge is sold out - or it was - and it was going for $875ish/night!! Unreal.

I am on the fence, but I guess MK just really draws me to it. I LOVE that Magic Kingdom. :earsgirl:

The Boardwalk looks lovely, though, and full concierge is very nice. Just don't know about losing that MK atmosphere.

THANKS!!

I have quite a bit of family in Florida myself. We never, ever tell them when we are coming down. We call them after we arrive and are settled to try and plan a day together.

 Another option to consider, is that you simply switch to a GV room at the GF for that last night. Who knows, if it's slow, perhaps you'll get a complimentary upgrade to stay in your concierge room :wizard: .

Last April my sister and I got a free upgrade to :cool1: SugarLoaf.
It was wonderful. But we paid only $179 per night.
My sister was there for a conference and that was the rate.
I did however fax the room assigner three days before we arrived.
The assigner called me at home that afternoon to tell me about the upgrade.
I will probably never stay at that level of luxury again!!!
If you can afford it, youi will love it.
I am not a big fan of the Boardwalk. Much prefer the Beach or Yacht CLub.

THANKS SO MUCH, YOU GUYS!! I think I will just stick with the GF. I am going to keep trying to get that discount on that last night. Stranger things have happened.....

I definitely want to try BW sometime, though. I like the idea of the concierge deluxe with the separate sitting area & extra TV. I am thinking (dreaming) maybe in the summer I can do a longer stay and split between two resorts if I can get a great AP rate again. I was even considering splitting 2/2 for my 4 nt stay, but that messes up the package delivery service, and messes up the PSs that I already have in the MK area. (that is another thing that I had to consider - most of my PSs were in the MK resorts or MK) I just thought if people RAVED about it, it would send me that way.

I appreciate the replies. I always go through this RAD(resort anxiety disease) thing before any of our trips. Just too many beautiful places to choose from!! :charac2:

THANKS AGAIN!!! You gave me great suggestions!!!

I would keep trying for that last night too. Occasionally we've gotten the AP nights we need to complete a reservation very close to arrival.

I would try to make sure the CM who helps you tries to add the last night as opposed to trying it seperately.

you said you liked the mk resorts did you try getting a ressie in the other resorts for the last night. Contemperary or poly might be able to help and you wouldnt have to spend the $600 *no offence* But if it were me Id try and find the cheapest place and use the extra money for other things I could never see spending 600 dollars for one night......thats a 5 night stay at pop in augest for one night ...

Again no flames here just my opinion!

I do have to say the BW concierge is my favorite on property. I have stayed at all except WL and CR. The deluxe rooms are beautiful and quite large. I do have pictures if you want to see them PM me. The cast at the BW is awesome. I could go on and on , but i have in so many other posts!!!

I agree with KerryCM, as I always do about the BWI concierge. I too was obsessed with the MK atmosphere, as I'd never stayed anywhere but a MK resort from 1980 to 2003. We stayed at the GF eight times in seven years and finally started staying at the BWI. There is no comparison at all, in my opinion. Plus, you can see Wishes from your balcony if you have a BoardWalk view ( which all deluxe concierge rooms have). I'm just starting to get a little concerned that the secret of BWI is getting out ... :earseek:

Oh!! Now you guys are making this difficult for me!! I don't know what to do!! I will just have to keep thinking about it. Do you think it would be too much to switch after 2 nights GF?? My DH really hates the switching resorts thing, but I am game. That way I could get the AP rate for 4 nights.

Angelgirl - no offense taken here. It makes me bummed to think of paying that much $$$ for one night. I paid almost that much over thanksgiving for a couple nights, but that was a splurge and we were in the main building, besides.

OH!!! The only things stopping me is that MK atmosphere, that monorail, the views, and my PSs. I am just not that familiar with the restaurants on the BW/YC side. I have done the ones at the YC, but I have 2 younger kids that I am not sure would care too much for Spoodles, Flying Fish etc. I am so torn.

I keep checking availability and it seems to still be there. Anyway.....if I don't try BW this trip - I will for sure split my next stay and do it!! Thanks again for the replies!!!
