Does anyone know what view the Grand Floridian Main Building King Bed rooms have for views? Are most of them theme park view or views of the resort? It says that we could get either so I'm wondering if one is more likely than the other.

You could get either. If you have a preference, you can put in a request, but there are no guarantees. We stayed in one of those rooms a few years ago and requested theme park view which we did get, but, again, there is no guarantee.

I’ve been in a room that overlooked the castle and one that overlooked the beach pool, so it really can be either one.

Are you asking about the king deluxe rooms? There are 4 octagon shaped rooms that look over the resort or theme park. There are also 9 rooms on the second floor that you can see the castle from. So you do have a good chance of seeing the castle from your room. We have stayed in those rooms 3 times, all 3 times we had a room on the 2nd floor. We did request an octogan room the last time, but did not get it. The view is nice but the castle is pretty far away, so it is not a real theme park view, IMO. And it is a little inconvenient getting to the lounge or taking food back to those rooms. We are planning on going back again in September & I may just book a standard view room instead, just to be closer to the lounge.

Can you describe how we would get to the lounge or how long you think it takes to get to the lounge on the 2nd floor? I have in my head that I could be bringing back snacks and drinks to/ from the lounge back to the room relatively easily :)

We really want a king bed and I wish I could guarantee a king bed on floors 3,4, or 5.

The map above is an image from the touring plans site. It shows the 4th floor. The lounge is to the left of that large oval octagon shape on the right. The rooms on the far left are the theme park view rooms. The second floor king rooms are below those rooms. The 2 dark squares near those rooms are elevators. Those elevators are the only way you can get to the second floor rooms. You have to take those elevators to the fourth floor & walk down the hallway to get to & from the lounge. It does make taking things back to the room tricky if you have a drink & a plate of food, pushing elevators buttons & all. It didn't stop me from taking stuff back, but it wasn't easy to do. On the other hand, there is no hall traffic noise to bother you.

Also, if you are coming from the main floor or lobby, you have to take the main elevators to the 3rd or 4th floor, then walk down the hall to the other elevators to get back down to the 2nd floor. The main elevator bank does not get you to the second floor rooms.

I really wish we could book a guaranteed king room on another floor too! :goodvibes

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I have been searching for! Do you know if there are stairs we can use to get to the club lounge on 4th floor or down to the lobby? Seems so weird!

No, I don't think there are. Those rooms are actually pretty cut off from the rest of the building. You can take the elevator down to the first floor, but you can't get directly to the lobby from there. You come out into a sort of service hall from which you go outside & end up between Gasparillas & the door near Grand Floridian Cafe. This is more convenient if you are going to the pool, boat launch or the main lobby. To get to the lobby that way, you would take those elevators down to one, walk outside & turn right & go into the building right by GF Cafe & walk down the hall to the lobby. To get to the monorail, we would take the elevators to 3 or 4 (if we wanted to stop & check the offerings), walk over to the main elevators, take them to 2 & walk to the monorail. If we were taking a bus, we'd stay on the main elevators to the first floor. That part really didn't bother us much tho. Just the inconvenience of taking stuff to the room, or popping into the lounge to check what was available. That's what bothered me.

Actually, there are stairs near these rooms, but they are for emergency exits only. There are stairs for all the other rooms on 3 & 5 that you can use to access the lounge or club CM desk. These are right next to the main elevators. It is a nice, open stairway, kind of like the one in the main lobby area.

These king deluxe rooms are directly over Gasparillas Grill. The rest of the 2nd floor is shops, the band area & Misners. So these rooms are actually behind all the shops.

They really need to distinguish between the theme park view king deluxe rooms and the much larger king deluxe rooms that are the octagon rooms. The theme park king deluxe rooms are very remote and I personally am not fond of them. They are also the size of a standard room with the addition of the jetted tub. These used to be denoted as honeymoon "suites" and the remote area was a purposeful design for those. I do enjoy the king deluxe octagon rooms and have stayed in those several times. They are over 800 sq feet I think, with a walk in closet lots of windows the refurb added a sleeper sofa. However, the type is by request only and worrying that my luck will run out I have discontinued booking these.

The website is incorrect as it identifies all king deluxe main building rooms as being a larger size. Only the 4 octagons are larger. It does correctly say your view could be TPV,courtyard, or "garden."
