Well, we just got in last night from our first stay ever at the Poly. In the past we've done YC club level, BC club level, and GF Royal Palm Club. So, we got in Wed night, and were late, so we had a 1 night room only in regular garden view. Check in was good, everyone was nice. Walked to our 3rd floor room in Rapa Nui. Not familiar w/the resort layout yet, the walk there was very dark on the paths. We soon learned our way though. Rapa Nui building is nice. Room was huge....bigger than the Hawaii building I think. But we open our door to 2 huge moths flying around. Not sure how they weren't noticed, but whatever. That was our main issue with that room. Everything else was fine, but I don't know if I'd like that building location for a weeks stay. I know you walk alot at Disney and all, and its close to TTT, but still a little ways from Great Ceremonial House.
So, next morning we store our luggage with bell services and walk to Hawaii building around 8:30. Check in our CM was awesome...gave DDs buckets and leis and my DD a birthday button and got us a second floor room that was already available. We actually chose 2nd floor (he would have let us have our pick of rooms) because it was same level as concierge lounge, and we figured we wouldn't be using the balcony. It was great that we got our luggage back and were all settled for the day in our room by 9:30am. The room was nice, view of the quiet pool, but we walked in the fridge was burning hot. Called for a new one, after we left, and came back a few hours later it was replaced, so service there was good. The cups in bar area were filthy. They were sitting there as if clean, but they had spots and spelled like a combo of liquer and coffee. We just used paper cups from the lounge..easier with the kids anyway.
2 out of our 4 nights in concierge we had no turndown service at all. We had no towel animals, which really doesn't matter to me, but I figured I'd mention it.
On the positive side, they brought my DD a signed picture of Ariel, and a chocolate for her birthday. And a chocolate and a card for the family. That was awesome...the other resorts we never received anything like this.
Food - definitely our favorite thing about this resort is the food. We had room service, Ohana, concierge food, Capt Cooks (would have gone to Kona, but DD was sick that day). LOVED the food. Everything was unbelievable. We'd go to Capt Cooks even, for their flatbread pizza and sandwiches, even if not staying at the Poly. The dinner spread at the Poly concierge was great too..you definitely could make a meal out of it.
Pool - We used the pool once..definitely more crowded than GF, but it was nice and the kids liked it.
GCH - We love the main building...just the feel, and everything about it is great.
Transportation - I didn't take a bus, but DH & DD did to Animal Kingdom one day and said the wait to AK wasn't bad, but on the way back took forever with many stops along the way.
Mousekeeping - Fridge fixed fast, good. No towel animals, no turndown, which I think they should do in the club level. They knocked on our door at 8am on checkout to see if we were gone. They left us a recycle note and bag, apparently leaving the cans out on the bar area to keep them separate was not good enough. They were just ok.
Phones - trying to get ahold of someone on the phone took me forever, each time I tried. I needed to call housekeeping at 10:30 pm to change the sheets (DD was sick) and it took 15 min for someone to answer the phone. 15 more min for someone to get there. They told me their system was down when I called, but when I mentioned this to the CM when he changed the sheets, he said "oh, is that why they were calling me. I heard it, but I was talking to someone". Ok, thats nice.
Overall, we just didn't feel like its as deluxe of a resort as the Grand Floridian, or even the Yacht Club for that matter. We didn't have a bad stay, but most likely will not stay there again. I know a lot of people here love this resort, but I think we're just definitely more of a GF family, and we do still want to try Wilderness Lodge and Boardwalk at some point.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
