Villas in the works for Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Disney Vacation Club is developing an estimated 147 villas as part of the previously announced expansion of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
Estimated to open in late 2013 near Disney's Wedding Pavilion, the resort's slated to become the 12th Disney Vacation Club property.
"We continually look for ways to expand Disney Vacation Club by creating resort experiences that our Members will love," said Claire Bilby, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Disney Vacation Club. "With the continued popularity of Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, we are thrilled to offer our Members and Guests a new resort option along the monorail beam with easy access to the Magic Kingdom Park, as well as a variety of shopping, dining and recreation experiences."

The Grand Floridian is arguably one of the fanciest hotels at Disney. I wonder if the DVC villas at the Grand Floridian are going to mirror that level of quality or if they will be a watered down version.

When the buy in costs and points chart comes out, then you will have your answer. My money is on upscale.

I agree. Disney only needs to build it once. After that owner dues will pay for upkeep.

I know there was talk of DVC cutting corners on BLT but, even if true, I assume they have learned their lesson. The Kidani lobby area isn't as impressive as Jambo but the villa interiors & furnishings at AKV and VGC are among the best DVC has to offer. And those are 2 of the 3 most recent DVC additions.

I would bet that the VGF is going to have a high level of quality, that way they can justify the high price and the high point cost per night. They're only going to get to sell this once, so they'll want to maximize their profit.

A higher point cost per room translates into more points to sell even if there aren't that many rooms.

Does anyone know the expected completion date of VGF. I've never stayed at the Grand Floridian but all my older relatives talk about how wonderful it is. With my resale it is not an option for me to stay there now so I'm glad I will be able to stay there with my DVC one day:)

See my post (#2) above. That's there is to go on so far.

So with less than or around 18 months before it opens, when do you think the points will go on sale? I'm hoping for deals on the Members Cruises.

I do not have a Member Cruise planned so I hope for a Member deal.
If 147 villas are planned - does anyone have the breakdown on how many
Studios, 1 Bedroom, 2 Bedroom or Grand Villas there will be ?
Hoping the cost per point is not excessive. We did stay at The Sugar Loaf and loved being at the GF !

The 147 villas are "two bedroom equivalents."

If grand villas are included, expect the total number of rooms to be slightly under 147. And aside from any Grand Villas, expect the +/- 147 to be a combination of lock off and dedicated 2B villas.

In comparison to others, it will be just a little bigger than VWL, about 3/4 the size of BCV and half the size of BLT.

What do you speculate on availability at VGF? Assuming point chart will be higher than BLT and perhaps in the Aulani range, do you think it'll still remain popular with DVCers? In other words, do you think VGF will turn out to be one of those impossible to book at 7-mo property like VGC?
