Wondering if others could share you experience or options for gluten and dairy free at the garden grill or 'ohana character breakfasts.

Wondering if we will get anything at all that is safe to eat since it looks like a family style meal where everyone gets the same.

any experiences?

It's been a long time since we ate at Garden Grill but when we did, there was plenty for our GF,CF and many other things free people to eat, all brought on separate platters.

We just ate breakfast at 'Ohana last Friday. I'll eventually get a review written up but here's the summary. We had Mickey waffles, a dish of eggs (on its own platter because one of the 3 of us with allergies can't have eggs), bacon and sausage, turkey bacon and chicken sausage (on a separate plate because I can't have pork), potatoes and fruit. Everything, even the fruit, was brought out on separate plates to avoid cross contamination (the regular fruit plate has a yogurt based dipping sauce). They even brought a dish of Earth Balance margarine and a container of real maple syrup for us. They will bring you more of anything that you ask for and again, it'll be brought out on its own plate to ensure no cross contamination.

You know, it just occurred to me that DH never got any of their famous bread. I'm not sure if they just forgot or if they just didn't bring it out because the other 3 of us area all gluten free.

Here is a past review of the 'Ohana breakfast.

Here is a picture from a past 'Ohana breakfast. DH's "regular" food was on a completely separate platter. The eggs were also on a separate plate so that everything else would be safe for our egg allergic kiddo.

We have no experience with GG, had breakfast at 'Ohana last October. DD10 is GF & dairy free. They had special waffles for her and all of her food came out in a separate pan. The chef come out first to discuss DD's needs and assured us that everything for special diet guests is prepared in a separate station in the kitchen. We found all of the TS restaurants to be very good in dealing with DD's dietary needs.

Although only GF, we have had wondeful experiences at both places. Garden Grill is now one of our favorite dinner places in all of the World. We have found the chef to be very accomidating and plenty of choices for us, and the desserts were great! Also, you can't beat seeing the charcters 3 times in a meal!:thumbsup2

We ate GF and Dairy Free for lunch at Garden Grill last Thanksgiving. We left hungry. Both Chef and manager were difficult at best. The only offer of "dessert" was frozen (rock hard) fruit. A few small pieces of beef(very dry), fish, lettuce with no dressing. We won't be back.

thanks for the replies. good to know about garden grill, sounds like they may not have as much flexibility as 'ohanas.

If someone else had a better experience at garden grill i would like to hear it, or if others had bad experiences. Good to know about.
Its been a long time since we tried eating at disney, I generally bring my own food in. I got sick eating so many times on previous occasions, but since i know more about what i can't eat now, i'm hoping things go better.

I got a ressie for ohana. I really want chef mickey but we now have a conflict for the morning I booked it :( so i keep checking back in case someone cancelled.

Having read all sorts of dining reviews, I get the impression that Garden Grill is kind of like Crystal Palace in that many people have great experiences while others have absolutely horrible experiences. It sounds to be kind of a roll of the dice.

Livndisney, that sounds terrible. I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that it was lunch since they only do that at peak times? Not that it's any kind of excuse because there is no reasonable excuse. I'm just speculating about what might have gone wrong.

As I said, it's been a couple of years for us. We were brought some of each of the proteins but they were all plain. There were no sauces at all for any of the meats but at least they were all cooked well. We were able to get seconds on the beef which was the only thing we wanted seconds of. I'm a huge fan of flank steak which is what they served back then and it was very tender thank goodness (I can't even force myself to eat dry beef because of sensory issues; I literally gag and have to spit it out). I think the salad was dressing free and the veggies probably plain steamed veggies though I can't remember for sure. It was ok. We had lots to eat but it was very plain. Dessert was only Tofutti ice cream with no toppings or baked goods with it which was disappointing since at the time every other restaurant had brownies or cookies to go with the Tofutti. The character interaction was great though. Back then we could get Tofutti at Sunshine Seasons which we can't seem to any longer so I wonder if it would even be available at GG any longer? Not long ago I saw an amazing dessert from GG posted on here. It made me want to try it again. Knowing that it's so hit and miss will make me think longer about it. We're typically not in parks come dinner time so it's not a restaurant we can get to easily anyway with them typically only being open for dinner.

I say "lunch" but the ADR was about 3:50-it was just after they opened for dinner. (I think it was considered lunch for the CP). I have eaten there before without issue. The server was embarrassed by what we were served and encouraged us to speak to GS. (GS did give DD a coupon for a safe dessert).
