GF Cafe????

Is GF Cafe really that bad?? I have read some really bad reviews lately. We were going to try there this trip, now I am second guessing? Anyone have a good expeirence lately? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

We have eaten at the GF Cafe several times and have always had a great meal. We will be going again this April. My only suggestion is to bring a sweater or sweat shirt as it gets very chilly in there.

Just had a meal there last week. That place was the sleeper-hit of the trip. My husband had a sandwich that he proclaimed was the best sandwich he'd ever eaten in his life, and I am not kidding. Here is the menu description:

"The Grand Sandwich - open-faced hot turkey, ham, bacon and tomato, with a rich Boursin cheese sauce and fried onion straws". I only tried the onion straws and boursin sauce, but those were home-runs IMO. DH was utterly floored by how good it was. He also really enjoyed the crab cakes he had for the appetizer.

I had a very good tomato basil soup and a very flavorless veggie pasta. I would order the soup again in a heartbeat, but keep that pasta away from me. Bad menu choice on my behalf.

The desserts were just ok. They're mini-desserts, which I think is a good idea, but they weren't THAT tasty. The key lime pie was far superior to the tiramisu, which was just sort of spongy and lackluster.

The service was good, but the food was SLOW to arrive.

Overall, I expected this to be a throw-away choice, but I was pleasantly surprised. We were a captive audience since our daughter was attending the Wonderland Tea Party next door, so I thought DH and I were sacrificing ourselves for her. Not so. I would eat there again for sure.

We will be there next week for the first time. Make sure to look at the dates on the reviews. If I remember correctly (and I could be wrong its been known to happen) During 1900 refurb, they had the character meal stashed at the cafe. Due to all the changes there was some confusion and this could account for the bad reviews. At least that is what I suspect.

I've been eating there since the mid-90's, and have always enjoyed it. The menu has become a little more limited than back in the earlier days (seems to be the theme of Disney restaurants), but it has been consistently good. Be warned, though, service is slow; they keep everything at a very relaxed pace.

One of our favorite places. Just had breakfast there in November and it was AWESOME. We've also had several dinners there as well and the food and service was always good.

We had two meals (lunch and dinner) at GF Cafe during our October trip. Both were absolutely superb. All of our many meals there on previous trips have been excellent, also. I highly recommend it.

DD19 and I ate dinner there during our recent trip (12-19 Jan 2008). We loved our dinner. I can't say that the service was slow.....cause we were not in a hurry and wanted a nice relaxing dinner! Our food was cooked exactly as we requested and was delicious. DD had prime rib and I had salmon.

As I posted in another thread, the only "bad" part was something that was NOT the fault of the Cafe. There was a mother with a young child who allowed him to constantly screech AND climb (literally) the walls. It was very disturbing to numerous diners. But that is the fault of the mother, not the restaurant. They belonged at the playground at McDonalds, not here.

We've eaten there every trip since 1993 and have always had a great meal with service to match. Breakfast and dinner. I always thought of it as a hidden jewel.
The Grand sandwich has been a personal favorite of mine. It's been a menu staple for lunch for quite a few years.
Glad you're going to stick with it- I think you'll enjoy it.

We ate there on Feb 5 and it was REALLY good! The service was wonderful, the food outstanding. The chef came out and introduced himself to us.
It was a quiet time for us and the lighting was low and comforting. One of the best places we ate all week.
I am thinking the bad reviews might have been when they were doing the character buffets because it was an OUTSTANDING place to have dinner for us
