Getting closer to our date and have made all our ADR's....thanks to all the great reports on the restaurants serving GF food...now what about counter service serving GF?

It is for my 15 yr old son who is not picky ..thank god!!:thumbsup2

Comments and suggestions welcome....here are my adr's for my 15 yr old celiac son:

Ohana (breakfast and dinner later in week):goodvibes
Crystal palace:grouphug:
50's Prime time cafe:rotfl2:
Le Cellier:cool2:
Fulton's crabhouse:snooty:
Kona (breakfast and dinner also)
Tutto Italiano:cool2:

Anything I need to watch out for or do you have a favorite meal at any of these or better suggestions. I am a little concerned about Tutto Italiano...not sure if they will have something for him.

Thanks!!

Only GF and not being free of any other foods is very easy. Most CS locations (besides WS at Epcot) have some kind of GF option. Special Diets will send you a list of their recommendations of which places they recommend as being able to best accomodate. They'll also send an attachment of which WS locations can provide what. Most of the WS locations are not owned by WDW so that's why they have a different format for the info on these places. Really, it'll be great. Just be prepared for longer waits than most people. I strongly recommend going at slightly off times because you'll already be waiting for you food so having to stand in line in addition to the extra wait gets to be really long.

Looks great to me!! I don't know about Fulton's as I can't recall reviews but I can't imagine that it would be difficult to prepare something GF there. I mean crabs and butter are naturally GF so come on, they have to be able to do something. Tuto I'm pretty sure I've read some good reviews but hopefully somebody else will chime in with personal experience. With our long list of allergies we won't go to a non-Disney owned restaurant but with just gluten on your list you should be fine. I think they carry GF pasta. Special Diets can confirm this for you.

Your son will LOVE the fried chicken at 50s PTC. OMG it's good.

Since you're staying at Poly, I'll also add that Captain Cook's is great. The chef at one point went upstairs to Kona to prepare a dish for DD13 because her options were limitted by her long list of allergies. They really tried. The manager actually asked us on our arrival day how long we'd be there and if there were any particular foods we'd like for her to order in. They really did great. Oh, and I think Dole Whips are gluten free. They serve those at Captain Cook's.

I am so happy about captain cooks and kona being willing to make stuff and just be agreeable!! I was thinking the same about fultons....we are at downtown disney that eve and it seems to get good overall reviews. Tutto's seems to be the real question...I can find nothing on it so far..I hope someone can chime in!!

I heard they make gf mickey waffles...is that only at certain places or do you think we can get them in a bunch of places? ADR's are filling fast!
:scared1:

When should I contact special diets?

I combined 2 threads about Gluten Free to avoid people making duplicate posts to both threads.

Tutto Italiano should be able to easily accomodate Gluten Free, even our local Mac & Cheese place has started offering gluten free mac & cheese, so it shouldn't be hard for a place as large as Disney, although you may need to call the day before or so. Also, make sure it is noted on all of your reservations.

When should I contact special diets?

I always contact them 4-5 weeks before our trip. That way my ADRs are pretty final, I have time to update my handy dandy spreadsheet of what foods we can get where and there's not a lot of time for much to change before we get there. The last point is why we don't contact them any earlier.

Captain Cooks I believe can prepare them, though we stay CL when we stay at Poly so we don't get breakfast there meaning I don't have first hand experience. I believe that other than possibly CSR, all resort food courts can make Mickey waffles. CSR's isn't Disney owned or operated so that's why they're different. I wouldn't count on getting them at any CS locations in a park.

You had also listed that you're having breakfast at Kona and 'Ohana. You can definitely get Mickey waffles at these places as well. The majority of Disney owned TS restaurants can make them. The only ones I can think of off hand that serve frozen Vans waffles instead are CRT, CP and Akershus.

Tutto has 1 or 2 GF choices. They can do the tapioca rolls when everyone else gets bread, but I chose not to. Basically it's going to be rice pasta with red sauce. Nothing fancy.

50's needs to be alerted ahead of time for the fried chicken otherwise they won't do it (in my experience, I'm sure someone will come along and say otherwise). So if you have a dinner reservation, go there in the morning and let them know that's what you want.

Wow, we've never been refused the fried chicken. It will take a long time without prior notice though so you definitely need to be aware of that. I always make not on my allergy form from Special Diets that my kids will want the fried chicken but the chef the last few times has told me that he hadn't seen the form until we arrived so it isn't doing any good. I guess maybe they don't refuse since in a sense we do give notice and it's not our fault that the chefs aren't getting the message? We do also eat at off peak times typically so I wonder if they just won't do it during meal rush time as it is time consuming? Just guesses. I always know that we'll be ordering fried chicken when we eat at 50s PTC so I always note that on our allergy form. Others have recommended calling the restaurant to let them know since it is so time consuming.

Hi our 21 yr old daughter is GF. Some of the best counter service restaurants for GF on our last trip (May) were:

1. Columbia Harbor House (the manager-Heather-was so very helpful and we ate their twice)
2. Cosmic Rays -the chicken is GF (always still check to make sure that has not changed of course)
3. Counter service at Mexico had several options
4.Not sure where you are staying but she has always had great experience with Artist Palette at Saratoga Springs
5. One note on Prime Time- we ate their unexpectedly so did not have time to preorder hte GF fried chicken. Our server told her about the chicken pot pie-it is on the lunch menu but not on the dinner menu but he told her if she wanted that they could do it for dinner for her. That is what she got and it was wonderful.
6. We also did Fulton's this trip and they were very accomodating-even brought her out her own bread with her own pot of butter without us even asking.

Good Luck!

I ate at Tutto and it was okay. They had GF pasta no bread. I wouldn't go back they did not seem eager to help me as other places. Try another place as most places go head over heals for my allergy.

GF CHICKEN POT PIE???????????? OMG please tell me more about this dish. It was my fave before I had to go GF :lovestruc

I'm debating between 50's or Mama's for our DHS day. We are staying at the Dolphin w/ hoppers so we could just go for a meal if either of these are do not miss as we are frequent WDW travelers.

I'm going to Disney in two weeks as a recently diagnosed Celiac- love to hear the great reviews and will post my own once we return! I have a deathly tree nut allergy as well, and Disney is AMAZING with it. :woohoo:

Minnie-even though we were there for dinner our server volunteered that if our daughter did not want the GF menu items (I cannot remember what they were now) they would gladly prepare the chicken pot pie from their lunch menu for her. (I think they have to make it GF, it does not automatically come that way). It did not take any longer than our food did though we did have an appetizer so that may have given them some extra time)
She absolutely loved it and many around us were jealous.

So, just ask. Note: we had a very experienced server-he has been there a long time so that may be why he went out of his way to give more options.

Raglan Road also has gluten-free fish and chips plus GF fried calamari. It was wonderful. Pizzafari and Flame-Tree in AK are very accommodating. If you want pizza, Pizza Planet in DHS has some. Cosmic Ray's has GF buns for both burgers and hot dogs if you're craving the junk food. A kind of funny story about it. We were on the QSDP and were trying to use up the credits. Well the food was taking a little long even for an "allergy" request and they refunded the credits without asking and gave us extra GF desserts. I wanted to cry not from happiness but from fear of how was I going to use up the credits.
