GF Afternoon Tea too fluffy for DH's ???

Hi
I'm 57 and so is my DH and my DH has a strong sense of self, and is always interested in things I like to do. I just know he wouldn't be comfortable at the tea. We just had our 38th wedding anniversary. "Beer, chicken wings and cigars" are not the extent of my DH's interest, but if he's not happy at the tea, I wouln't want him to do it. When I go to Disney with my girlfriends, my DD and DGD and I go to the tea with them.

That's exactly what I meant... It was our first time to WDW, and I heard so much on the tea, and was actually able to get the day, and time I wanted the day before, so I figured why not. While yes my DH picked a tea after getting to smell which ones they had, and picked one he liked he was uncomfortable. He does not drink, does not bar hop, and I have yet to see him be insecure with himself. It was just I feel more geared towards women with their daughters, GD, Girlfriends type of thing. I in fact think I would have rather had a girlfriend go to the tea with me as it did seem much more that speed. Some guys do like it I am sure I know I loved the setting, and the China Tea pots, and cups they serve it in, and that each person who orders the tea gets their own pot it was nice, but in my experience with trying it it just felt more a girlfriends/ daughters thing to do. I wouldnt want to force my DH to go with me just because I want to go, and then have him feel out of place to where he does not enjoy it. This is my experience, and JMHO

I made an ADR for DH and me. He loves tea, he loves sweets, he enjoys being around women (most of his co-workers are female), and I think we'll have a great time. It will probably be a little fancy for his taste; but he's a good sport, and he knows I just love going to tea :cloud9: We are going straight from the park, and won't be dressing up. But every guy is different, and many may not feel comfortable. If you don't know if he'd like it, just ask him! Show him the menu (there are menu items geared more toward men), show him pictures of the place, and see what he says.

DH and I also watch hockey together, drink beer, and we both yell at the TV when the Sharks or Red Wings are losing. So I guess you could say we share interests :rotfl2:

I NEVER said you had to be old!!!! I am just saying it was older ladies who were there. I liked it, but DH felt badly uncomfortable, and no he is not a berr drinking sports bar man. He does not do bars. It just made him feel very out of place. I enjoyed it, but wouldnt drag dh back to it I would go alone or with friends.

I may have misunderstood when you said " much much older"; I was reading the inference that for a man to enjoy the afternoon tea he would have to be old and only there to satisfy his wife........sorry if I did not catch your train of thought.:hippie:

I guess I am trying to figure out why so many think men would be uncomfortable going to afternoon tea........My reference to "Beer, chicken wings and cigars" was meant to be funny. I know that many men have varied interests outside of those things; matter of fact I abstain from alcohol and tobacco......although I do love a good chicken wing.:teeth:

Why does everyone think tea is so girly.......any men from England want to chime in on this???:scratchin I stand by my statement: "Real Men Drink Tea Too!"

Pardon me, gotta go...........the tea pot is whistling and my newspaper is waiting.:coffee:

:thumbsup2

Yep, I've missed many a train of thought -- had my bags packed, ticket in hand, and then found out I was standing on the wrong platform at the station...

It's not that tea is girly -- it's the atmosphere that I think most women are concerned about, how their DH's will feel wearing khaki shorts and a t-shirt perched on a chair in a room full of chintz and lace, flowers, china teapots, classical music playing in the background, parties at other tables consisting primarily of women. If a guy can get past that and just relax and have fun, he'll probably enjoy himself and really like the food and tea. But not every man would feel comfortable. I'm betting for my guy his love of tea and sweets will override his wariness of frilly stuff.

First time I took my DH to tea (to test the water, so to speak), we went to a "Tea Salon". Instead of the typical flowery chintz, it was decorated in African, Middle Eastern, and Far Eastern themes, with a good measure of Art Deco thrown in -- quite exotic. There was a tea tasting bar, as well as tables scattered throughout the salon, and at the far end there was a "Sultan's Tent" with a low table and cushions to sit on the floor. Very cool, several guys there, and DH liked it a lot.
