For our anniversery's present and future my bride and I gave each other 40 years of vacations ALONE by adding on at the BCV. After all, we did get engaged in front of the Main Street Christmas tree some 10 years ago. We just got back from our first solo trip last week and did not feel guilty at all. We told our DD's 6 and 3 that we were on a mission to find more fun things for us to do when we go again as a family. Did they buy it? Nah, our oldest looked shell shocked that we would even consider doing such an inconsiderate thing. My parents came to spend the week with them which they truely enjoyed.... On with the trip.

We flew Delta out of Indy without a hitch early Saturday 11/16. Our Dollar rental economy car miraculously turned into a golden PT Cruiser. (pixie dust #1) Our goal was to spend the afternoon at AK but the rain did not let up. We took advantage of this by hitting the Disney outlet mall as well as the grocery store. We wanted to activate our AP's so we swam in and out of AK without doing one ride. We checked in at AKL for one night and the lobby put us in awe and at peace much like the WL. After a swim and a look at the animals we headed for Boma's. Boma's theme is that of a bustling African marketplace and at first glance I wondered if Jiko might not have been a better choice after traveling all day. We were seated by the window but at night there is no view. I skillfully ordered a nice red wine by selecting the one with the funniest name and we headed off to the pods. To make a long dinner (2+ hours) short, it was wonderful. After a few plates of good food and a few glasses of wine the bustle of Boma disappeared. We tried almost everything and there was nothing we did not like. So we waddled back to our room thinking we would never eat again until........breakfast at Boma's. Yes, we were gluttons for gluttony. And yes, this meal was excellent also and we would not eat a big meal again the entire trip.

I woke up early Sunday and hot tubbed in the rain. I would peer over the fences on occasion to look for animals. It was so quiet and peacful alone in the rain that I felt a glimpse of Eden. After spending a cool but dry morning in AK we headed over to the BCV to check in. We were not on the guards list and the front desk told us we had canceled our reservaion months ago....(NOT!). Fortunately there were rooms available and we were willing to wait for a decent view if possible. We walked over to Epcot and enjoyed test track for the first time. I had really been looking forward to the wine and food fest but Boma spoiled us on this. After that feast we were no longer willing to wait in line for little samples of anything. When we checked into room 461 we were pleasantly surprised to be able to see spaceship earth off our balconey despite our "cancellation". (pixie dust #2). We were even able to see some of illuminations at night.

Monday Morning and off to MK. All rides were short or no waits. We had clam chowder at Columbia Harbor and it was a nice alternative to our traditional Pecos Bill burger. We had a delightful time at the western vaudville type show in Frontierland, cant wait to bring the kids. We had reservations at California Grill for dinner, to catch MK fireworks to the west and the shuttle Endeavor liftoff to the east. We ended up canceling as did the shuttle since we were still "Bomatized" and DB's (Disney Bride) sinusitis was getting worse. We enjoyed another quiet evening on our balconey.

Tuesday we took the boat to the Studios for EE, DB opted out of TT and RRRC but we enjoyed other rides and show's together. I got picked to be int the backlot movie tour navy film, it was a blast. We hung out at storm along bay after lunch since the weather was getting nice. Before dusk we actually did see a rocket launch from Cape Canaveral from our studio. (Pixie dust #3) Via this board we shared an Illuminations cruise with Karen and her friend Acacia. It was very nice to meet them as well the Canadians that joined us. THe show was impressive and was a perfect ending to another nice day.

Wednesday we headed back to MK mostly to shop Main Street and to do the train which we always forget. By that afternoon DB's sinus headache had had enought of rides and marathon walking. It was easy to see that its not all that great to be in a fun place when your not feeling well. I did Epcot solo for a couple of hours that night but was back in time for illuminations

Thursdy morning I did TT and RRRC again before we checked out. We did Epcot one last time and had a nice lunch at Le Cellier. DB still was not feeling good and was dreading the thought of 35,000 feet up with a headache. Nevertheless, we made it home safe and sound driving through the snowfall, just before midnight, Christmas lights glowing, throughout our Indiana town.

PS:
It's fun to receive and appreciate those unexpected, undeserved gifts we call pixie dust. It's even better when we realize these blessings aren't restricted to Disney property or limited by fragile fairy wings. They are all around us all the time.
Thanks.

A nice trip except for the sinus attack - now to start planning the next trip - thanks for posting!

What a great trip! A guilt free/kid free vacation sounds wonderful.

I enjoyed reading this and I'm going to post a link on the Adults and Solo Travelers Board, if you don't object.
