So I have a question,

Its just my eight year old son and I. And often in the spring and summer he and I love to go to Gettysburg. (he LOVES Explore and More the childrens museum) We have done the Lincoln train museum (he wants to do this everytime we go in town lol) We always do Devils Den. But I want to do something different this time. Any ideas?
He is a typical adventurous boy, he loves geocaching, climbing rocks, listening to our audio tour of gettysburg(even when we are at home) :rotfl2: well I guess that might not be normal but you get the idea.
So anything cool or different in that area?

I personally have great memories of Gettysburg although it is a bit sentimental for me, my exdh and I went there on our honeymoon, and my dad used to take my family there on daytrips (I grew up in Hershey)

Boyd's is very cute.

Would you consider making new memories somewhere else?

I go to Gettysburg College, so I may be of help!

I would definitely recommend doing a Ghost Tour (do the Fansworth House ghost tours... they are the best group). They are pretty fun.
Also, I've never tried it before, but I know they have fun Segway Tours of the battlefield if you want to try something different.

The horseback tours are very cool and an entirely different way to see Gettysburg. Not sure what the minimum age is on them but that might be something different. The horse tours are out of Artillery Ridge Campground - check here http://www.artilleryridge.com/horseind.html for info.

There's also the Join the Army program for kids http://www.nps.gov/gett/forkids/index.htm. My oldest will be old enough to try that this year, so I really don't know what it's like yet, but he'd be comfortably in that age range. If he has an interest in the civil war than this sounds like a program that would nurture his interest. The Junior Ranger programs at most parks we've been to are also fun (learning) activities. Again, I can't comment on Gettysburg's since we've not done theirs yet.

If you are there around the battle anniversary, Gettysburg does their real-time/anniversary walks. They do typically have a walk designed for kids and it's a very cool walk! They don't have their schedule for the anniversary walks posted yet, but check back to the NPS site as it gets closer to July.

When is your trip?

We can kind of go whenever we want we are about an hour and a half away. It just makes for a nice daytrip,
I would be willing to go someplace else, the only reason I even think of it is that my son loves it so much.

Thanks for all the great ideas I will most definatly look into them:lovestruc

I'm a graduate as well, a while ago, though! Great to hear that Farnsworth still does the best ghost tours (they used to have the best spoon bread, too). Best of luck to you as you prepare to enter the "real" world! :goodvibes
